In many ways, artists can be compared to gemstones – most are multifaceted, come in various sizes, cuts, colors, and weights, and shine brilliantly the closer you hold them to the (lime)light. Mike Posner is one such treasure, and from Cooler Than Me to his most recent Booth feature Please Don’t Go, we’ve seen the electro-pop prince from quite a few angles. However, his newest offering, Bow Chicka Wow Wow, as the title might suggest, shows Mikey Mike in a completely different light – the red light. Bruno Mars and The Smeezingtons deliver some mellow guitar chords and playfully seductive piano to set the mood, but in spite of the production’s closeness to perfection, Mike’s attempt at establishing himself as a contender for reigning pop sex symbol comes off as an almost cartoonish three minute long pick-up line. Above-par, breathlessly raspy vocals are typical Mike, but there’s something about his image that makes this song incompatible with true bedroom burner status. Or is it just me? Regardless, Posner’s debut album, 31 Minutes to Takeoff, takes flight August 10.

This record is catchy, but it has the feel of a placement and not a creation. Since we all know Posner's behind-the-board talents, its a little odd to hear him backed by Mars and the boys. In the hands of another, more poppy singer this could have worked better.

Please Don't Go was a rare song where I can actually stand this guys voice. This one is just annoying as Cooler Than Me.

Not that bad of a song but kind of corny. The saying "Bow Chicka Wow Wow" is so lame, it almost ruins the whole song. But fortunately everything else was pretty decent and kept the song was being a complete waste.

I think this will fit in really well with his album seriously all his songs fit together really well. Not my cup of tea but really lovin' what he's doing

It's actually not hard to judge a track like this. Just ask, "If I threw this on when I was looking to get down with my girl, what would happen?"
In this case she'd laugh and tell me to go sleep on the couch. Mike can do a lot of things, but his voice just can't pull off a baby maker.

It's catchy and it's growing on me...but it still feels forced. I'm sorry.
After two nasty mixtapes, I can't help but feel like this track was forced and unnecessary. Since when has Mikey needed help behind the boards? I'm a bit concerned that the two solid tracks we've heard (Cooler Than Me and Please Don't Go if you're scoring at home) were written at least a year ago. I just hope we hear some quality cuts written with the intention (and the pressure) of being on the album. I won't say I'm worried (I'm too biased for that) but I'll be interested to see what the second half of the album has to offer. It'll be an interesting 10 days... |

This is smooth as I don't know what EXCEPT for that hook. and ONLY the part where he says Bow Chicka Wow Wow. I really like the melody its infectious

This song is really hard to judge, the beat is a monster but I’m unsure about the vocals. Either way I’m sure this will be a huge hit.
