Mike Jones - Swag Thru The Roof

Mike Jones

After four years, numerous cuts, a title trimming, and three official singles, the release of Mike Jones’ sophomore album, The Voice, is finally on the horizon.  Since Jones has stated many times that he’s aiming to match the double-platinum success of Who Is Mike Jones? with his latest LP, it’s easy to see why, on the all-important ‘single before the album,’ he sticks to his time-tested formula.  In the relatively successful, female-oriented tradition of Drop & Gimme 50, Cuddy Buddy, and Next To You, the record finds him joining forces with an uncredited hook singer to praise a woman who’s got Swag Thru The Roof. Complete with a synth-heavy beat by Swole and a generous helping of his trademark “Mike Jones!  Who?”  and “(281)-206-4336!” (new number, same concept) ad libs, STDR showcases the same old Mike Jones, love him or hate him.  If you’re in the ‘love him’ category, make sure you pick up The Voice when it drops April 28th.

Mike Jones took a step back with this one in my opinion. I'm really happy with the way "next to you" is being received at radio, but this one is really cliche and unoriginal.

This actually aint that bad, its rotation worthy at least. He brings some of that same style to this track that made him appealing when he first came out (I'll admit, I called the number after I heard "Still Tippin). The production and hook make the track catchy/radio-ready. And Mike Jones is nothin special, but he is himself on here so I'm cool wit it.

He needs to really give credit to the guy on the hook because he kind of saves the song. Mike Jones doesnt impress me at all his flow always sound the same and those stupid adlibs. Production is generic its iight but this song gets repetitive real quick

Not very much originality in terms of the topic of the song. I've heard enough "swag" songs, but this was decent. The hook was catchy and Jones spit some good verses to fit the song, although lyrically they were nothing special. Rotation.

Like I said, either you love it or you hate it here. (It's Mike Jones of early days-WIMJ? mixed with Mike Jones of American Dream movie EP-now.)

Because I'm kinda on the fence about "The Voice" right now, I'm giving this a 3 (the middle point), but "Swag Thru The Roof" will be a hit (It took us awhile to find out Nae Nae sang the hook to "Next To You" and YelaWolf sang the hook to Slim Thug's "I Run," I'm hoping we find out who sings the hook sooner rather than later here-he can honestly go above and beyond Mike Jones when his career takes off)

Oh, and an update. Swole also sang the hook here (as well as made the beat-Jones confirmed that in a KyteTV chat) So you can credit him as the feature artist there.

Not feeling him as much as before. Hes switched everything up a lot and I was totally content with the way he sounded before. This new sound sounds good on some "summer hits" but I wouldn't wanna hear a whole album of this unfortunately. Come on Mike Jones..... lol go back to ur 281 330 8004 days (still remmeber it haha)

Plenty of mainstream appeal, just the way I like it. I can bump to this, especially since the Summer is approaching.

A whole bunch of Jones songs got leaked in the last couple of days & I thought this was probably one of the weaker tracks out of the group. Still, the production is decent & Jones came correct. A decent album track.

Im shocked we havnt heard his phone number lately.

Can't be mad at MJ for trying to change his style. Everyone was getting on him saying they're sick of the, "Who, Mike Jones!," but now everyone is wanting him to go back to his old style. Doesn't make sense to me...

Tired topic, but catchy record. This should be able to achieve a marginal amount of mainstream success.

Good thing he rolled this single out now - in 6 months, we will have moved on from "swag" talk. (At least I hope we will have...)

this is ight, i dont mind listenin to it sometimes.i agree w/everything that "BDF44" said. also, i think the chrous is really important on a Mike Jones track and its not that good, but if the word "swag" wasnt in the title or chorus then it could prob be a 4.

Feelin the beat, but he sounds terribly. I hate it when they sing/rap like this! Plus the hook is too repetitive and the melody is mediocre. Don't like this

Catchy chorus, production is fresh on the ears (nice mix of instruments). Mike Jones coulda been better on the track but it's still nice.
