Mike Dreams - Hip Hope Anthem (Hello World)
Artist: Mike Dreams
Producer: Cory Grindberg
Album: Dreamer's Poetry
Label: MUSIC2DREAM2
Cynics, now would be a good time to step away from your computer; the dose of musical positivity Mike Dreams delivers on the latest (and probably final) single/leak off his long-awaited debut album is so strong it might send you into convulsions – either that or make your heart instantly grow three sizes larger a la the Grinch. Making its world premiere right here in the Booth, Hip Hope Anthem (Hello World) finds Minne-ap beatsmith Cory Grindberg serving up a sweeping piano-synth instrumental (originally featured on a remix of Jay-Z‘s Hello Brooklyn) as Dreams spits some of his most inspirational bars to date. He ends the record with a powerful statement of unity: “I do it for y’all – I’m proud to be black, but I’m more proud to be human and, see, we all are that.” Topped off with a solo by Twin Cities guitarist Mike Frey, this rap anthem is one that hip-hop heads of all shapes, sizes, colors and creeds should be able to get behind. Dreamer’s Poetry is set to hit DJBooth.net for free download on Feb. 8, in anticipation of its physical release the next day; fans can check out a sneak peek at the tracklist and album art at RefinedHype.com right now.

Nice! Really looking forward to the release of the album. This track is so rich lyrically that you have to keep it on replay to get the full effect. The guitar riffs at the end are solid, too.

This might be the best song I've heard from Mike. I always love his positive messages and inspiration. He just knows how to make quality music. This song is filled with dope lines, but the one richard featured in the blurb (“I do it for y’all – I’m proud to be black, but I’m more proud to be human and, see, we all are that.”) is a classic line. So true. 4.5, I'll round it up though.

And this is why we've been co-signing Mike for so long. True talent on display right here. Everything about this record would make you become a fan if you already were not.
Great job, Mike. |

Love this track right here, Mike keeps delivering inspiring music with some crazy lines. Everything was dope from the lyrics, hook, concept, and production (esp. with those guitar riffs ending the song off). Flawless.

This is a very inspirational track.
Lyrics are always well thought out, and that lets people know that you value your words. The production is clear and smooth, so continuous play is never a problem. The all around vibe of this track is classic from start to finish. This is why I say this track is classic. Something that can last a long time. Keep up the good work bro! |

Quality music from a quality artist - is it just me, or do you hear shades of Lupe on the chorus? And yes, I'm aware how heavy of a compliment that is. He earned it.

It’s one of those beats which you can completely lose yourself in. The progressive piano throughout the track is haunting, while synths and drums are layered over it, the piano’s still the hook that everything else latches on to. It takes a blistering guitar solo to pull attention away from the piano. An insane ear for beats.
Lyrics work because Mike Dreams earns them, working hard to create a sonic space, pushing intelligence and social change that welcomes sincerity and soul searching without pretentious groans, managing to address social issues without being judgmental. "I saw and I understand all the hustle/family was down and out, you had to be the hood muscle" February 8th is quickly approaching people. GET HYPED! |

This dude is wack. He just about defines average rapper. He uses the whole conscious rapper thing as a gimmick, and it shows. Word of advice to you Mike: don't quit your day job.

For the record, we welcome debate, even heated debate, but disorganized hating and swearing will get your comment deleted. Let's keep it about the music people.

@GStan10
Its obvious you're like Mike's friend or something from the fact that you keep posting on his songs. The reasons Mike's songs aren't good are they have very simple lyrics and they are all gimmicky "I'm a conscious rapper, so I'm gonna tell you guys how conscious I am" songs. Also the fact that the dude hangs out in the comment sections of his own music, shows how much of a life the guy actually has. Thats why I think Mike Dreams is garbage. |

@StringerBell: GStan10 rates most songs in general. Is it impossible to be a fan of someone too? And your reasoning is flawed if you're basing it off the fact Mike Dreams posts here in the comments. It means nothing at all, and I'm sure you have at least some brains to realize that. Maybe.
"Very simple lyrics"? How many songs of his have you heard? Have you heard Tha Diner? Or did you just click one or two? |

Laughing too hard at @StringerBell. That was not a good reason to hate.
I can honeslty say that Mike is a concious minded person in general, so it shows in his music. A true artist expresses themself in thier craft. (Try listening to ALL of his songs, and you will see what I'm talking about) |

Mike don't even listen to these haters with no substance, they tracks aren't gettin posted on the site so they need to STFU, now onto the review, this song is Auto-Banger status and you've deseved that because your so consistant with your material. I been listening to this at work alot just to get through my shift. But Mr. Top Hat you think you can work your magic and provide the lyrics to this Banger track ???

@StingerBell - Dude really? First off I've never met Mike, I just respect the quality music he brings which is why I listen to all of his songs (and like MuzzieBoi said I rate most of the songs on this site). Second, his lyrics are far from simple, if you actually listen to them he's got some dope wordplay in there. Third what difference does it make if he comments on this thread. He didnt give his own song a rating and he was just thanking everyone. Clearly there is no reason to hate Mike, so I don't understand where your goin with this.
