Mike Dreams - Gettin' Ours
Artist: Mike Dreams
Producer: Teddy Roxpin
Album: Dreamer's Poetry
Label: MUSIC2DREAM2
Fresh off his switch from “Young Son” to the more mature (and distinctive) moniker Mike Dreams, Minne-ap up-and-comer Michael Hannah brings his trademark upbeat touch to the topic of hater-dom on single number three off his long-awaited sophomore full-length. After a deceptively low-key intro, Gettin’ Ours kicks into high gear – Teddy Roxpin, the beatsmith who worked his magic on This Far, takes a similar approach here, delivering an infectious, Chipmunk-sampled groove with a dash of rock ‘n’ roll energy. Dreams keeps things civil as he addresses his doubters, but his unfailingly polite rhymes hit home with the force of a dozen profanity-laced tirades – packed with motivational wisdom and clever wordplay (“Like a shepherd with his sheep, you better act like you herd/heard.”), his confident verses should leave the critics with little to say. One of the catchiest cuts we’ve heard from the artist to date, Gettin’ Ours will undoubtedly get the opposite of hate in the Booth, Dreamer’s Poetry has yet to receive a solid release date, but fans should keep it locked to our frontpage for all the latest!

I've always felt Mike Dreams has a style that separates him from the rest of the pack. His music is always positive and uplifting, and he has an ability to turn his songs into lessons for everyone all the while walking freely across the lines between involvement and observation, between humble and self-agrandizing. This joint being one of the fine example of that. Nuff said. Just vibe with this ish!!!

Yup, CB. It definitely had that BOUNCE. I am a fan of this flow, too. Overall, another solid record for Mike. We are proud to be a sponsor of his new project.

Yo Michael Hannah… this is too serious man, I gotta call you by your name! 0_0 If this gets to the right ears, you’re in trouble man: no more privacy! lol A “new star is born” indeed! Damn!
I LOVE the Kanye-like production (so catchy, bouncy and uplifting - amazing job with the tempo, breaks, and sample) and Kanye-influenced rapping! Thank God for Mike Dreams, since nowadays it’s not cool to like Kanye, so I’ll always have you man! lol Seriously, I’m proud! =) This is my favorite song from you! It has such a positive and different message!!! A rapper talkin about getting “ours”?! lol Man, this was full of quotable lines, please make the lyrics available in case I missed any! |

Yea I felt that bounce too. Had a real up-beat vibe. Mike Dreams has always impressed me with his flow and lyrics so that is nothing new.

WOW. Takes me back to the "College Dropout" days. The production on here is absolutely classic but, just when you think nothing can get better, the verses kick in and blow you away. MH, best of luck, you definitely deserve whatever success comes your way.
If you ever need to work on a music video, let me know. I'm actually an award-winning student film maker. (Just a fun fact for the DJBooth). I'm currently residing in CA but I'm sure when you're making Kanye-cash, I'll be more than willing to fly on over. haha. |

Yo, MH, hot track homie. I'm sure you won't mind the Kanye comparisons but yeah this does remind me of some College Dropout joint. You also changed your flow up for this! Nice! Just like FredRico said: You're talking about everybody including your listeners. Fans love to hear their favorite artist talk about gettin theirs but it's nice to finally hear a song where the artist talks about EVERYBODY gettin theirs. That's what's up. I hope I get like you homie. Do it!

This is a great track from the Dreamer... Some niceness once again from Mike! I like the bounce on this one, and some of the punch lines are nutz.

Mike: I think your flow is excellent, I really like you as a rapper, but honestly I'm not crazy for the production. I love the beat (it fits your voice) but I don't like the music. That background simple makes the song very messy in my opinion! It's a good work, but I preferred We'll Be Alright

Not only does the man make good music, he writes longer album review than I do (see BP3 review for the latest:) Hip-hop needs to make room for positive music, lord knows we need it. Hip-hop needs to make room for Mike Dreams.
On a side note, if you don't actually provide any feedback on the track and just pimp your own website/project, your comment will get deleted. Don't make me get my Warren G on and regulate. |

The wordplay is ill. The beat with the sample so damn soulful. I would like to give it five stars but I know he has better material. I don't care what he changes his name to this guy puts it down on this track.

Diggin': Just about everything, from the old-school sample to Mike Dreams' verses "When life gave me lemons, I made merengue pie!"
Not Diggin': Well, I guess I woulda made more of a sample of how the beat started off (adding a few slow-drums to it). But then again, that's just my personal taste. Ya did good, homie! I am SOOO downloading 5 files of "Dreamer's Poetry" when it comes out! |

Sounds like something Kanye would produce, but that's not a bad thing at all. And Mike your flow gets better every song man. I can't wait to hear Dreamers Poetry. Just keep this stuff coming Mike. It's better than 90% of the stuff out there.

Had some cool lines in it...the hook was nice...I would say the delivery/flow at times was rushed in pockets of the track that stood out... However, I think it was a cool track...

I think your vocals are off the hook to me as usual. I think someone could just put a kick drum behind you and it would sound pretty good. To me, your vocals are very strong, and track behind the vocals is more generic, but cool/solid.
