According to a press release, Booth newcomer MidaZ’ new project is the magnum opus of an ill-fated funk group called the El MidaZ Affair, recorded back in 1973 and tragically lost… until now! Other sources report that the project is a collaboration between the Floridian emcee and retro funk-fusion group El Michel Affair. Though the second version may be a bit more plausible, the elaborate, fictional backstory is nothing if not creative – and the innovative touch is equally evident on Creation, the first leak off the project. Backed by a vintage live-band groove that, if I hadn’t done my research, I would have assumed was sampled, the underground emcee spits bars packed with involuted flows and internally-rhymed quotables: “B*tch, don’t act like I won’t squeeze the air out your life like bagpipes, ‘cause I will/ Only thing that it’ll say in my will: ‘You know all them b*tch n*ggas?’ Make sure all them guys is killed’” If this left-of-center track impresses you as much as it did me, be sure to download a copy of MidaZ’ latest mixtape, set to debut exclusively at potholesinmyblog.com on January 5th, 2010.

I dig his vocals, his cadence, his flow, and his overall presence on the record. Sounds a little like CyMarshall Law (who is a Booth favorite). Love the pre-chorus beat-change, big fan.

Regular readers know I value originality over everything else, and that's why I value Creation. The live instrumentals are dope, and he delivers with a flow that's more than worthy. Though I'm not hearing the CyMarshall comparison like Z. Anyone else?

I thought this was cool. It feels like MidaZ could have delivered differently on this one to create a more effective/moving record but not bad at all. I enjoyed the track. The overall marriage of the track and verses weren't in streamline alignment in my eyes but just my opinion. Do your thing MidaZ and keep pumpin out those records.

@Nathan- Nah, neither do I.
As for song, I'm with @Hollis J, his rhymes/flow felt too... congested. His flow and beat doesn't mesh as well as it should have. But I like the production for sure. Rotation-Stuff. |

I dig this track, but like others said, his voice/flow did sound a little "congested." Still, it's a nice preview of what's sure to be a killer project.

I was getting a little of a DOOM vibe flow-wise - personally, I like the "congested" style.

I wouldn't go and search this one out to jam but if it was up I wouldn't skip to the next.
