Mickey Factz - Red Sky
Artist: Mickey Factz
Featuring: Emilio Rojas
Producer: Melo-X
Album: Who The F*ck Is Mickey Factz Vol. 2
Label: GFCnewyork/Battery Records
Perhaps it was unreasonable of me to even dream that a rapper had paid tribute to the classic ‘80s flick Red Dawn, but that didn’t stop me from being slightly disappointed when I discovered that Mickey Factz’ new cut Red Sky contained nary a Patrick Swayze reference (R.I.P.). My own pop culture predilections aside, Mickey capably continues the momentum he began with the release of previous single Paradise, and his exclusive DJBooth Freestyle, on Red Sky, which finds producer Melo-X crafting a cloudy, synth-driven beat for Mickey and guest artist Emilio Rojas (whose work on Hold You Down (Remix) is still ringing in my ears) to drop some straight-up, no frills rhyming, Mortal Kombat and designer fashion reference that should have aspiring emcees reaching for their pads and pens. That was a hell of a run-on sentence, so let me make it simple: Red Sky is dope, and I have to assume that Mickey’s upcoming mixtape, the rhetorically-titled Who the F**k is Mickey Factz Vol. 2, will be too when it drops August 19. In the meantime, be sure to check out the newly released video for Paradise.

Mickey sounds angry. And you know what? I really like it when Mick is angry. His music is better and his hunger to impress is evident. Nice collaborative choice in Rojas (who is a personal friend and favorite) and the production caught me off guard... but in the good way. Shouts to Melo.

If skills sold, truth be told, Rojas would run hip-hop. As it stands, he's just an underappreciated underground rapper. Good work from Mickey too.

I started listening with a slow intense head-bob, and as soon as Emilio kicked in I was damn near head-bangin. Just to echo what's already been said, Mick went hard and Emilio is the truth.

Track is dope but only because Rojas laid some serious lit all over his verse..sorry but I forgot who Mickey was because Rojas assasined the mess out of it. Mick is cool though but if you are going to headline and invite dope conspirators, guard ya track.

Mick kinda looks like Taio Cruz in that picture.
Deep lit, good vocal expression; overall dope. |
