Mickey Factz - Light Up [Freestyle]
Artist: Mickey Factz
Producer: Noah "40" Shebib, Tone Mason
Album: I'm Better Than You Mixtape
Label: GFCnewyork/Battery Records
Light Up, the Jay-Z-assisted joint off Drake‘s hugely successful Thank Me Later LP, wasn’t really about the herb, and neither is this new, freestyled version from Mickey Factz – but, hey, why sweat the details? Those who follow the Big Apple rapper’s lead and spark one up during the intro (don’t do drugs, kids) will undoubtedly appreciate this spacey joint (no pun intended) all the more. Over Noah “40” Shebib and Tone Mason moody, reverb-drenched production, Factz drops bars considerably gritter than Drizzy’s, but no less appealing, showing an unmatched knack for mixing braggadocious aggression with erudition: “I don’t need fakers, I’m so popular / I’m reading lost words out of the Apocrypha…” If you like what you’re hearing, you can find this dope freestyle and much more on Factz’ bluntly-titled I’m Better Than You street album, scheduled to hit the ‘net sometime this summer. And if you don’t, well, I think the artist’s said everything he has to say to you on his current single, the hater-dedicated Paradise.

Mickey is clearly on a mission. With 2-3 new music drops per week for the past few, it seems as though he wants everyone to hear that he can keep up with the best of them (and then some). While I prefer Drake's original version to this freestyle from Mick, the display is impressive in its own right and should attract a few new fans.

First off, freestyles always make me appreciate the original beat more, and the production on Light Up is outstanding.
As for Factz, per usual his flow's deeper than it comes off at first. You need at least a couple listens to catch all the references - and as a Celtics fan I love the Lamar Odom shot. Solid effort. |

Like Nathan Said, "-makes me appreciate the original beat more, and the production on Light Up is outstanding". That's exactly how I felt when i heard this. And mickey did decent' I'm gonna go listen to more of his music now and see how consistent he is cuz I like his approach to this,

Any freestyle over this sounds good. This guy actually brought it though.

The beat is addicting, serves its purpose for a freestyle here. I was pretty juiced to see Mikey's name next to "Light Up." While he did spit some nice lines the energy level could have been higher.
Is it me or did some of those lines come out sounding like Consequence? Not a bad thing. |

I thought this was going to be wack, but I have to give it to Mickey Factz as this was a solid freestyle.
