On August 12, Michelle Williams hopes to silence some of her critics, when she releases her new album, Unexpected. In an interview with DJBooth last month, Williams explained: “They think because I made two gospel albums, that I have a makeshift altar at home. They think I’m quiet; they don’t know that I’m the funny, outgoing girl that I am.” On the heels of taking over the number one spot on Billboard’s Dance Chart with her current radio single, We Break The Dawn, a new Williams record entitled The Greatest has emerged inside our Booth. The song, which is produced by Jim “I produced Lollipop” Jonsin, details the unnecessary search for a significant other when a perfect candidate is right in front of your face. Penned by songwriter extraordinaire Rico Love, The Greatest might be a solid single selection. But is Williams reaching for the stars?
Man, I'm loving the mellow Jim Jonsin. That drum kit is nice! I liked Michelle's last single a lot, especially the remix with Travis McCoy. She's really making a name for her solo career. I will admit she wasn't on my radar when she stood in the shadow of Mrs. Knowles-Carter and even Kelly, but she's breaking out. This is a great. For some reason, I want to hear a remix of this with Kanye or Lupe or a mellow rapper with some nice lyrics to serve this nicely. Hmmm....maybe a certain Twin Cities rapper will do it.
DJ Z, after this track drops nationally, all critics, haters, disbelievers, suppressors, inhibitors, or whatever else you want to call it, will recognize that Ms. Williams has tremendous talent. This track is ORGANIC!!!
You have got to give Michelle her props becuase her music is so different from Destiny Child & Beyonce in a good way. It's kind of like she has her own voice and is not just Beyonce's back up singer.
Is that michelle? Is that Jim Jonsin on production? Yea this works well. Sounds like a break out hit from the daughter of destany. Jim is turning into one of my favorite producers he is beatin the @*#$! outta the industry right now. This pop slow down is a really good look for him. Good song, deffinalty a hit in waiting!
I really think Michelle Williams has come into her own in this genre. For the first time (after her last single), she's actually been standing out and getting GOOD recognition. I personally never thought she was even that strong of an artist, but I'm absolutely being proven wrong. This is actually very mellow and smooth jim jonsin for me, and I'm really feeling it. I think he's done a much better job with this than he did with beyonce's beautiful nightmare.
Man, what can I say Jim Jonsin & Rico Love are just some of "The Greatest". This beat brings out her voice so well, and you can feel the emotion. She becomes the song when she sings and alot of artist can't always do that. She get's a star just because she's Ms. Williams and 4 stars for the song.
I am more proud of this song tonight than any other one. I've been hoping that Michelle and Kelly Rowland would finally put out a big national hit and get some recognition. Well.....this is it (for Michelle). I can see this song getting top spots on all the charts, Michelle is so talented and this production is insane. I'm giving this a 5...deal with it!
I've never been a huge fan of her voice. And after hearing that break the dawn song I said I would never listen to her again. But this song is pretty good. Not as great as everybody here says. Buts its okay.
This is a good song for Michelle. This could be a hit. I doubt if they could make a good enough video to carry it. Vocals are good. Matthew Knowles hurts Kelly & Michelles career. They need to leave this guy alone and find them a new label and team.
1. Rico Love is considered one of the industry's top songwriters.
2. Jim Jonsin has an excellent reputation as a producer (Lollipop is just part of the reason).
3. Michelle Williams deserves every ounce of promotion her label can muster (If it's not much, she needs to leave and find one that promoted better-it worked for LeToya).
P.S. When WOW:) rates a female R&B song a 3, that is a HUGE compliment (she usually doesn't like female artists).
Oh kay its good, but she has had some good songs before and they didn't go NEWHERE and I just hope she comes out with something a little more catchy-smashing. We'll see I give it a 4
this is prob the 1st time i've ever seen Patty do justice to a song....didnt really like kelly but u can't hate...the lyrics, beat evrything is there....anything less than three stars is just being a hater....great song!!!
Surprising to me. This chik is bringing fire in the '08. I always thought o her as the wack member of destiny's child... I can't believe I actually like her and her songs for her solo album.
Its nice 2 c Michelle doin her own ting uno... used 2 thing dat she didnt have much talent buh her album has really proved me wrong. Love da beat and da mellow feel. 1 thing about her is dat her songs always have meanings 2 them doe.Buh 4 real lovin dis tune. Keep it up Michelle!
i always admired her voice when she was apart of DC but now...
its not really in my opinion "what i thought she would be".
But its a good song don't get me wrong. I look foward to more...
