Michael Jackson - Skywriter (Stargate Remix)
Artist: Michael Jackson
Producer: Stargate
Album: Michael Jackson (Remix Suite 1)
Label: Epic Records
As was made clear by the many beatsmiths who sent the Booth their thoughts following the King of Pop’s death, Michael’s Jackson‘s influence was equally felt on both sides of the boards. Now, some of the game’s biggest producers have joined forces with Universal Motown to pay tribute to the late great by remixing a few of his classics. Stargate, the production duo best known for cowriting and producing Beyoncé‘s hit single, Irreplaceable, have taken a trip back to MJ’s early days to tackle Skywriter, the sweeping title track off the Jackson 5’s sixth LP. On their revamp, Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen pile on the synths and add a punchier, more danceable backbeat, retaining the original’s retro-futuristic feel but incorporating elements from the ‘80s and today. It’s a fittingly era-bridging tribute, and a catchy reminder that, even before MJ was a full-grown pop icon, he was the greatest child singer of all time. Fans can find this track as well as remixes by Polow Da Don, Dallas Austin, the Neptunes, and Salaam Remi on Michael Jackson Remix Suite 1, out now online.

Since Michael's career was launched in clubs worldwide, it makes sense that the direction taken on this remix (as well as all the others in this new release) project is a club-oriented focus. This isn't better than the original (which was a VERY slept-on record in his Jackson 5 catalog), but it oozes fun.

the beginning and the hook is horrible but mj's young voice holds it down

I didn't really like the intro, but the production worked pretty well wit the track once it got a bit further into it. The original is better, but this is a cool blending of eras (even though it could pass as 80's production.)

They definitely could have done a better job with this. The intro sounded off pitch. The production was nice with Michael's voice though. Rotation, but not as good as the original.

I love michael, I do not love this song. It sounds like this should be played in a gay club.

GREAT original track, and I'm all on board for checking different artists' renditions of great music in the past. "Fun" would be the best word to describe Stargate's take on this Jackson classic.

MJ's voice sounds great with this production, but the intro and chorus sound off-key and they take this down for me. Overall, its not as good as the original, but its still in rotation.
@Dj mcm -- I dont see these tracks as tryin to profit off of MJ. They're tributes to how good his music was. I mean, who would really think that one of these remixes would replace some original MJ, right? Besides, pretty much whenever an MJ song is played, his estate gets money. |

MJ is the BEST EVER PERIOD...but this remix isn't that hot at all. I was hoping for something with a slightly better beat and simply put together better. But this was a pretty bad attempt. Original is definitely better.
