On February 12, 2008, the world will be blessed with a 25th Anniversary re-release of the greatest selling album of all-time, Michael Jackson’s Thriller. The album will include the original track listing and an additional eight bonus tracks. In addition to collaborations with Akon (Wanna Be Startin’ Something), will.i.am (Pretty Young Thing), and Fergie (Beat It), Kanye West has remixed the classic Jackson hit, Billie Jean. The musical alterations are minimal as West only changed out the bassline and infused a heavier and more distinguished beat. Of course, it wouldn’t be a true “Kanye remix” if the mixed and mastered version didn’t include a ‘Ye made-famous “uuuh” or “yeeeh;” after all, who better to remix Billie Jean than a current king of pop?

I was just searching for this on the Internet and I couldn't find it so I decided to check out DJBooth and it's here! You're on top of it, Z! There are many pros and cons on remixing Thriller to make it appeal to todays current generation. The people who grew up with the original will hate this project while at the same time their own kids will love it. Kanye does what he can with a wicked bass-line but true music gurus know that you can never outdo the classics. I'm actually glad that he didn't decide to spit a verse, that would totally be over the top.

Yeah, the original is better by far. Billy Jean is a classic that shouldn't be remixed. In my opinion, Kanye remixed it a tad too slow... Nothing the picth control can't handle.

Mike will always be king and no one will ever gain the popularity in the music industry again...I can't wait for his new album (kanye, will I am and a few others are working with him on it) and hopefully he can recapture the greatness he is entitled. This remake could never be as good as the original. Nothing can...

I think Kanye did pretty good. Also, they re-did "Wanna Be Startin' Something". MJ's now in it. I have the link somewhere.

I don't think artists who "remake" MJ songs do it to try and make it sound better than the original! It's more out of paying tribute to a legend. Love MJ, love Kanye and this version is decent (not made to top the original - nothing will)

respect to all involved in this but..... what is the point in remakeing a song on a album that went 27 platinum, no.#2 all time in any genre...

Again respect to all involved, "maybe" there is a song on the album that could be remixed and made better but this isn't it!

i m a big MJ fan and i luv Kanya but when you take a chance remaking one of MJ's songs you have to bring it and bring hard. I like the mix but with a song that made history like this one, the original one can never be touched. Overall good job, I would listen to it.

How you gonna do a remake and not have that killer bass line. Tempo is also too slow. Tight drums though. The original drums just cannot be touched.

Kanye did well on this remix. However, it was just plain suicide trying to remake songs of one of the greatest albums of all time. i heard Fergie's "Beat It" and Akon's "Wanna be Startin Something" and they were really horrible, murdered two of the best songs. heard snippets of Will.i.am's and they werent as bad.
