Those who tuned in for Mic Legacy‘s first Booth feature know he’s all about the old-school greats, but the Virginia emcee’s reverence for hip-hop’s past doesn’t change his focus on stacking paper in the here-and-now. On new single selection My Time, making its world premiere in the Booth, the man who brought us exclusive freestyle The Best and fellow Va. native Khizman team up to profess their love for the Almighty Dollar. The hustle for cash is familiar lyrical territory, but few will be able to deny the freshness of the collaborators’ vivid, wordplay-laced (“Butterfingers with the cases, I ain’t caught one yet.) rhymes. !llmind comes with a little old-school soul on the production tip, borrowing his beat and hook from Motown classic Without the One You Love. I’m a sucker for anything Four Tops, but Booth readers didn’t seem to share my enthusiasm when D-Hurl used the very same sample on Charlie Smarts’ Bonanza – does !llmind flip it to greater effect here?
