In a recent interview, international hip-hop/pop starlet M.I.A. stated that she intended her latest full-length to sound like a “digital ruckus.” Well, as something of an expert on ruckuses of the musical variety, I’m happy to say that the official lead single, XXXO, fits that description to a tee. Could I describe the ruckus? Why, yes, yes I can. Presented here in newly-remixed form, this dancefloor-ready selection finds producers Rusko and Blaqstarr layering swirling synth arpeggios and reverb-drenched percussion as M.I.A engages in some sing-rapped sloganeering around the topics of sex, identity and Twitter. The real news in regard to this version of the track is, of course, the guest contributor: none other than J. Hova hops on board for the remix, expanding upon the headliner’s technological musings and, for no apparent reason, resurrecting the term “metrosexual” in his brisk closing verse. If this sounds like your kind of ruckus, it’s a good bet you’ll find more to vibe out to on Maya (or /\/\ /\ Y /\, if you wanna be fancy) when it arrives on store shelves July 20.

It wasn't until I saw her live in concert that I could truly appreciate the unique (to say the least) musical stylings of M.I.A. Though I can only appreciate her songs in certain settings (in the car, but not in a traffic jam for instance), I respect her creativity and global reach.
"XXXO" can surely get annoying after a few listens, but with Jay-Z aboard (adding further urban appeal) I think its a winner in the club. |

its hard to understand the verse because its really low in range... and the hook isnt making me get up and dance when it should.

Im a huge fan of both these artists and im kind of disappointed that both of them collaborated on this type of beat. Dont get me wrong, the beat started off with a bang but then became very very annoying, and Jay prob felt the same thing and didnt go hard AT ALL.

This is dope. I love the chorus, production and Jay-Z's verse. Best M.I.A. song I've heard, most of her others are...err...creative.

Loved it!
Production is just catchy and M.I.A.'s delivery is addictive. Love the blend of rapping and singing. Jay's verse sounded great, his flow was so on point! |

I feel like she's trying to follow Gaga and Kie$ha. It sorta works, though, because her singing is different. I can see lots of girls getting down to this.

@donjonjon Ha, it's hard to imagine a comment that would have pissed off M.I.A. more. She's been making far more creative/adventurous music than Gaga/Kesha for far longer, and M.I.A. spends every interview now talking s**t about Gaga.
Anyway, at first I wasn't sure about this one, but once I relaxed a little bit I was feeling it. Not one of Jay's best verses, to say the least, or M.I.A.'s for that matter, but I'll still take it over your average hip-pop hit any day. |

Whattup Booth! Its been a minute, ya know how it is with work and stuff...ugh anyway onto this track:
MIA could of done this song by herself, no Jay-Z needed on this at all. Take Jay off this and ill put it in rotation |

Curse this song! I have had its catchy chorus inside my head for the best part of 3 days now, and it isn't showing any sign of shifting. Although I feel I must criticize it slightly cos she doesn't really do much when it comes to the verses, they sound cleverly put together sung, until you actually realize they are more nonsensical than what you originally thought! Though, Jay-Z is able to keep his edge and the result is not as watered down as I thought it would be.
Given the popularity of these two performers, it is clearly going to be a popular single. However, in comparison to her "Kala" era (and those Mumbai-streets Tapori-swag songs), it's nothing spectacular and will rather prove a disappointing affair for her Indians fans. |

Um, not really my style. Its too "pop-y" for me. Only decent thing about this was Jay-Z's part.

I love how M.I.A is so beyond just "different", but she can always bring it back full circle to something like this which is probably the least "digital ruckus-y" thing I've heard from her in a while. Both this single, and "Born Free" are great songs, but come from two completely different worlds. Makes for an incredibly eclectic album, that I can't wait to hear.

90% of the music M.I.A. makes is hot garbage and the other 10% bangs. This is somewhere in between. And it does sound like she is trying to take some of the lady gaga sound and inject it into her music.

I LOVE M.I.A. and I like Jay-Z. That being said, this song is pretty weak! I think the beat is just too much and M.I.A. isn't that great on here. This is a very forgettable track. Jay-Z sounds like an afterthought on this track and he doesn't really make it any better. OK
