M.I.A. - Bad Girls
Artist: M.I.A.
Producer: Danja
Album: TBD (Promo Single)
Label: N.E.E.T./XL/Interscope
When M.I.A. first burst onto the scene way back when she was the consummate outsider, an artists who’s look and sound we’ve never really seen or heard before. But since then she’s become the consummate insider’s outsider, still as eager to defy categorization as ever but also performing next to rap’s biggest names and doing tracks with Madonna. Don’t get it twisted though, Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam is still living life alongside the Bad Girls of the world. For her new single M.I.A. recruits Timbaland protégé Danja for yet another eclectic beat that blends middle eastern flavors sprinkled with banging hip-hop percussion. Vocally M.I.A. somehow manages to be monotone and widly stylized, in particular throwing down an anthemic bridge that I’m betting will become a favorite sample for hip-hop producers in the coming months (every rapper now wishes they’d come up with that “my chain hits the chairs” line). We can expect more doses of unpredictable music from as we move closer to M.I.A.’s forthcoming, currently untitled album, as well as that aforementioned Madonna collaboration, Give Me All Your Luvin, set to drop this Friday, February 3.

Not as catchy as her past work, but with her international following and trendsetting ways it has the potential to be just as successful/popular. Kudos to Danja for the production work, which is not within his normal sonic range.

I always felt like M.I.A. would succeed if she formed a group with a couple top flight MCs for an album or two.
Her production choices and ability to sing a catchy chorus would be great with some top flight lyricists I think. (throwing couple guest verses on this for a remix would'nt hurt I think) Just go hard, innovative and try to create an international classic. 3.5 stars (I like the production on this one) |

This is sick right here. I love M.I.A.'s different style and her flow. Always liked the way she does her thing. I like the beat by Danja and the chorus is tight too. 3.5 out of 5 for me. Can't wait for the next album.

Don't like the production due to lack of structure. M.I.A. with a good flow no doubt about it. But there is always something missing. And this one is not even close to being catchy.
