Though inspired by the notorious Prohibition-era gangster who helped popularize the term “G-Man,” Booth newcomer Machine Gun Kelly‘s stage name has less to do with literal firearms than with the Cleveland native’s knack for lightning-fast flows. On newly-released promo single Leave Me Alone, leaked back in October ‘09 but presented here in its finished form, the up-and-comer reminds us that technically dazzling rhymes and emotional resonance are in no way mutually exclusive. Backed by a reflective, acoustic guitar-synth instrumental by Booth-acclaimed duo Rock City (who also contribute a memorable hook), Kelly vents his frustrations regarding haters, self-doubt and, of course, the relentless grind, building momentum from his conversational opening bars to a double-time grand finale. The rapper ends the record with a promise to keep it one-hundred and not start “[living] like Miley Cyrus.” If he can hold to that, it’s a good bet the 19-year-old emcee has a bright future ahead of him. Digging this promo track? Keep it locked to the Booth for more from the promising up-and-comer.

Dope record. MGK impressed me too, as I didn't know what to expect from a white dude with the name Machine Gun Kelly. I like how he channels his energy in favor of great diction. If he tried throwing more power into his words his voice would break and it wouldn't be a good thing. And - as always - Rock City takes care of business with their hook duties. Solid!

I'm a little disappointed that Richard, our resident sample expert, didn't point out that the guitar line on this is from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but there's nothing to be disappointed about in terms of the song. Rock City does their thing and Machine Gun Kelly definitely won me over with that flow. Bring on more from the man.

Perhaps I'm biased, (Under The Bridge by RHCP is one of my favorite songs) but I really liked this one.

All around this is just a good song. The guitar sounds great and MGK flowed real well. Rock City held it down on the hook as well.

If I didn't here this sample before I would given this Auto-Banger status, but this is a classic from red hot chilli peppers so I can shy away from that, so this is ok for me. Basically if it broke don't fix it.

This isn't objectionable in any way, but it's also not very memorable. 2.5
