On his last featured cut, MED schooled heads on “Where [He’s] From,” rhapsodizing in detail about the sights, sounds and surrounds of his formative years. Well aware that nostalgia for the past shouldn’t be allowed to occlude one’s view of the present, however, the Oxnard repper administers a reality check on his latest mixtape single, informing me you, himself, and anyone else who will listen: “This is Your Life.” Boy Meets World beatsmith Exile produces, crafting a dreamy vintage-school groove (adorned with vocal samples from Statik Selektah‘s Follow Me, the D&D All-Stars’ 1, 2 Pass and more) as MED mixes lyrical reflection with abstract poetry and a dash of tightly-wound braggadocio: “West Coast rider, now your’re notified, if MED’s not the best then the spot ain’t notified.” Fellow Cali underground mainstay Blu drops in for a guest verse, flaunting his Jesus piece and his facility with free-associative wordplay on the back. So, how about it: need more MED in Your Life? If so, you’ll find what you seek on Bang Ya Head 3, out April 26, via Fat Beats Distro. Also, watch for his sophomore full-length to hit stores in late spring/early summer via Stones Throw.

Takes way too long to start rapping......the lyrics are kinda weak

If you patiently wait for the actually rapping to get started - enjoying the instrumental and scratching work all the while - there is a lot to like here. MED isn't an artist I would put into my own personal rotation, but his work is consistent. Not a huge fan of Blu's work, but he sounded good here too.

I loved MED last two features "Classic" & Where I'm From," both were classics IMO.
And I think they have another classic here. The production by Excile is incredible. All you guys giving this 2-3 stars, shame on you. :) |

nothing out of the ordinary with the rapping and lyrics, MED and Blu are both alright, the production is where i like this song, not enough to make a banger though, props to exile in any case

the reason i like this track because they don't try to make rap so complicated. there style is on point with the beat. love the scratches in the track that's what's missing. i would play this on my show.

I didn't mind waiting for the rapping to start. There are enough samples and scratching to make the intro entertaining. Blu is a great emcee, who always puts out quality. MED does his thing as well. Great track.

Damn, this is smooth! Blu always delivers but this track start to finish is satisfying Hip Hop. Everything about it, check it.
