Kahali Oden - Intelligent Hoodlum
Artist: Kahali Oden
Featuring: KRNDN
Producer: Nicatyne
Album: Mean Doe Green
Label: Unsigned
Street smarts, know-how, savoir faire; whatever you call it, Mean Doe Green‘s got it. On his latest single (a Booth-exclusive world premiere!), the Cali representative formerly known as Doey Rock gathers a few of his savviest colleagues to pay tribute to that rare (and dangerous) breed: the Intelligent Hoodlum. Backed by Nicatyne‘s twanging guitar arpeggios and tapped-glass percussion, the freestyle series alumnus slugs back a boilermaker or two before giving us a rundown of what’s been on his mind lately, from his worries about his health, to his ongoing paper chase, to the safety of his daughter: “Low sodium diet, ‘cause my blood pressure’s getting scarier / Daughter’s getting bigger so my pistol’s growin with her / The chicks is prettier, but I ‘keep focused on the figures.“ Joining M.D.G on the guest tip, Strong Arm Steady member (and fellow freestyle alum) Krondon and Booth newcomers Silence Dem All and Black Zeek lace the record’s back three-fourths with their own brand of lyrical knowledge. Digging Mean Doe Green’s gritty, yet intellectually stimulating style? More bangers await on his self-titled full-length, coming in April.

"Intelligent Hoodlum" is what I like to call "soundtrack music." (I hope Rick Ross doesn't rip off my quotable for a new song title.) If you can listen to a record and hear it as the perfect accompaniment to a film (either from the past or a made up movie in your head), its "soundtrack music."
BTW, if Green gets offers from a studio for this record to be used in a film... I want my royalties. |

I agree with Z on this one. Definitely soundtrack music. The music moves nicely and all the emcees hold their own. Great track overall.

I like this beat. this is like something I'd listen to before a game to get me focused.
then throw in strong lyrics and it makes it a banger. I'd have to listen to it more to give it 5 |

I don't know if I can top Z's "soundtrack music" call, so I'm not even going to try. As the title suggests, this is a blueprint for how to rhyme hard, but not lose your mind while doing it. Dopeness.

Mean Doe strong point here is the lyrics, I'm not really a fan of the production, and the hook is kind of weak as well.
