Either the haters are getting really lazy or ¡MAYDAY!‘s latest mixtape is a genuinely flawless musical masterpiece; more than two months after its release, Lords of the Fly has yet to receive a single reader rating below five stars. Whatever the case may be, Midi Mafia have boldly set out to improve upon greatness with their brand new remix of the Panhandle State crew’s current single, They Told Me. Here, the Brooklynites trade the original’s upbeat but contemplative groove for something a little harder-edged. While the Mafia’s furious breakbeat and scorching synth-bass arpeggios up the danceability factor considerably, those who aren’t too busy getting down to listen to the verses will find that Wrek, Bernbiz and company’s philosophical bars hit home as hard as ever, as do Big Apple vet N.O.R.E.‘s slightly less cerebral, but equally entertaining guest rhymes (“My balls bounce – U.S. Open.”). How does this version stack up against the original? That’s for you to decide – and, if you need a refresher, why not mosey on down to our mixtape page, where Lords of the Fly is still available for free streaming and download?

"They Told Me" is a million miles away from the what you'd expect from N.O.R.E, but its actually the best work I've heard from him in quite a long time. That credit, of course, goes to our friends ¡MAYDAY!

Ahhh. Probably the best track of the night for me. Production is amazing. And it enhances the rest of the track. Awesome song.

I have to agree with " bowwser" on this. This is the best record of the night, besides one song. DJ Premier was an classic. But besides that, this is the best of the night. Im realling every second on this song. I cant help but love this song. Everything is great. iMAYDAY! did amazing in this. And the feature of N.O.R.E. is crazy good. This song is a defenit radio type song. I will be listening to this record for a very long time to come. The production from Midi Mafia is amazing. I cant believe im about to say this but.... This has the ability to ba a classic. But there just isnt enough here for that. I rate this track a 4.5.

First twenty seconds was all it took to get me hooked. "They Told Me" is a unique and just all around incredible track. Leave it to MayDay to come up with nothing but great music. Nice job!
