With a penchant for genre-bending grooves and talent to spare, Florida hip-hop group ¡MAYDAY! and Kingston-bred singer-songwriter Jovi Rockwell are two acts that seem destined to push the game forward – fan or not, you have to admit they’re On 2 Someth’n. What would it sound like if these adventurous artists were to join forces? To find out, we need look no further than this new remix, the latest leak off ¡MAYDAY!‘s forthcoming full-length. Over Plex Luthor‘s subtle blend of stop-start-percussion and guitar harmonics (topped off with a startlingly fresh solo on what sounds like a keytar with a dying battery), rappers Bernbiz and Wrekonize spell out their subversive mission statement: “Rock and roll, hip-hop, pop and soul / It all fell like dominoes, now it’s fro-hawks and Gators, yo.” Jovi brings a little extra Caribbean flavor on the spacey chorus, as well as dropping an exuberant middle verse.
