With a penchant for genre-bending grooves and talent to spare, Florida hip-hop group ¡MAYDAY! and Kingston-bred singer-songwriter Jovi Rockwell are two acts that seem destined to push the game forward – fan or not, you have to admit they’re On 2 Someth’n. What would it sound like if these adventurous artists were to join forces? To find out, we need look no further than this new remix, the latest leak off ¡MAYDAY!‘s forthcoming full-length. Over Plex Luthor‘s subtle blend of stop-start-percussion and guitar harmonics (topped off with a startlingly fresh solo on what sounds like a keytar with a dying battery), rappers Bernbiz and Wrekonize spell out their subversive mission statement: “Rock and roll, hip-hop, pop and soul / It all fell like dominoes, now it’s fro-hawks and Gators, yo.” Jovi brings a little extra Caribbean flavor on the spacey chorus, as well as dropping an exuberant middle verse. Intrigued by these envelope-pushers’ vision for a brighter musical tomorrow? ¡MAYDAY!‘s Stuck on an Island LP drops September 7, and fans can hear more from Rockwell on her Booth-sponsored Psycho Therapy 1.5 mixtape, due out in July.

As soon as I saw that ¡MAYDAY! and Jovi had recorded a record together I knew I'd like it. Thankfully, they didn't disappoint.
I would have preferred the verses build up to a little more intense crescendo before the chorus kicked in, but that clearly wasn't the sound or angle these artists wanted to take so ignore my pickiness. Great for head phones or while consuming your grandmother's special brownies. |

Very laid back track that I could definitely see myself rocking to. Instrumentals in the production were nicely worked in as were Rockwell's vocals. Wouldn't get too much replay from me, but that's just me. Ultimately, this track succeeded in regards to putting on display the group's talent. "I think were on to something" got a little too repetitive and that's the main reason why this track isn't above average for me.

The song first sounds good but after a while it gets a little boring. The beat was decent, the change up in the middle was needed, but with repetitive lyrics it can bring the whole song down.
Agree with Ryan Sx. They said that way too much. |

Love, love, love, the live instruments in this. I'm new to MAYDAY, but I'm familiar with Jovi Rockwell, and I was curious upon seeing she was involved. Feel like I'm in a small smoked filled club in Austin, TX somewhere. This was enough to make me a new fan.

Plex Luthor? Ha, great name.
Like Z, I knew this was going to be a great track before I even pressed play. I like almost everything Mayday does, and almost everything Rockwell does, so then the two come together the result's a supremely enjoyable cut. I can see how people get lulled to sleep a little bit on this one, but overall I've got nothing but positives. |

I like the relaxed vibe of the song.. but it is a little slow to progress as a true single. but maybe as the background music to a website or in a store i could see this!
