¡MAYDAY! - Give 'Em a Song
Artist: ¡MAYDAY!
Featuring: David Banner
Producer: ¡Mayday!
Album: Lords of the Fly
Label: Strange Music
Would mentioning the fact that ¡MAYDAY!‘s Lords of the Fly has yet to receive a single reader rating below five stars mean “jinxing” the musical equivalent of a shutout game? Because, if so… oops. For those who still haven’t caught wind of the Miami crew’s growing buzz, standout cut Give ‘Em a Song should give you an idea of what the fuss is about. On the production tip, Plex Luthor, Primo Gio. LT Hopkins and Nonymous keep things simple and organic, blending mellow acoustic guitar with downtempo percussion, as vocalists Bernbiz and Wrekonize drop verses as filled with heartfelt emotion as they are with hard truths. It’s Southern heavyweight David Banner, however, who takes the lead, lashing out with righteous anger on the front: “While we let George Bush keep lyin’ bout them votes, Obama keep preachin’ about hope. / But my folks on the Coast left with oil spills from BP and not one speck of soap.” Craving more from these innovative up-and-comers? Grab a copy of their Lords of the Fly from our own mixtape page, and mark your calendar for the Oct. 12 release of their sophomore full-length, Stuck on an Island.

¡Mayday! has had people talking for years, but their buzz continues to build and build thanks to records like this. The Banner contribution is fitting and appropriate, but the group (with or without any guest 16s) simply knows how to churn out good music.

I agree with Z here - this group does know how to churn out good music and that's exactly what this is. Love the guitar-led production.

HUGE fan of David Banner (Underground), Mayday, don't know much of their music but quickly becoming a fan. The guitar intro is perfect and the song gradually changes beat by beat if you listen depending on the vocals. These guys know their stuff, and I'm hooked.
