Masspike Miles - Love Drunk
Artist: Masspike Miles
Featuring: Rick Ross
Producer: Streetrunner
Album: The Struggle
Label: Maybach Music/Warner Bros.
With Valentine’s Day just one short month away, it couldn’t be a better time for a little PSA on the dangerous, mind-altering effects of infatuation. Enter up-and-coming R&B singer Masspike Miles, whose latest single finds him recounting how an intoxicating female stole his heart and left him Love Drunk. As it turns out, not even the biggest of bosses is immune to lovesickness: Maybach Music general Rick Ross (Miles’ collaborator on Get It Together) gets just a tad emo on the back end, kicking his guest verse off with the lines, “Sittin’ in my car contemplatin’ suicide/ Slit wrists, in the mirror screamin’ ‘Who am I!?’” Complete with an appropriately melodramatic, string-drenched beat by Streetrunner, this single should strike a chord with anyone who’s ever gone temporarily insane for romantic reasons – so, pretty much all of us over the age of 15. Masspike Miles’ debut studio album, The Struggle, has yet to receive a solid release date from the label brass. Keep it locked to DJBooth.net for all the latest news and tunes!

Streetrunner provides Miles with a real nice musical backdrop here (this sounds like something Fab would spit on - right?) Not so sure it works for an street-R&B ballad, but who knows? Maybe it does work. I am just one opinion...

The beat is good but not spectacular!! The vocals seem a little boring!! Maybe it's a grower?? |

@ "Maybe it's a grower?" Great term for a song that takes a little while to sink in. Like the first few times I heard Luda's "How Low" it annoyed me, and now I turn up the volume every time it comes on the radio. Honestly, I don't know if Love Drunk has that kind of potential, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

SLOW+SLOW=2 SLOW...This beat is way too epic to be used for R&B on the majority. That was made clear as soon as rick ross started spitting and it just sounded right. I actually enjoy the vocals on this but they just don't compliment the flow of the song. When you don't have a powerful voice and you have smoother vocals you need a more uptempo beat to retain attention and distinguish the singing from the music.*IMO* I still dig this song, I just really hope they remix it a couple times.
