Masspike Miles - Keep It Tight
Producer: The Dream Team
Album: Super Fly Mixtape (Gangsta Grillz Special Ed.)
Label: Maybach Music/Warner Bros.
Last we heard from Masspike Miles, the Boston native (and past In the Mix interview subject) was Love Drunk, caught in the grips of a budding romance. Several months later, it looks like that flame is burning as brightly as ever, despite the extended absences required by the musician’s lifestyle; on the latest leak off his forthcoming Gangsta Grillz mixtape, Miles engages in a little telephonic foreplay, asking his girl to “Keep It Tight” in anticipation of his return home from the road (Kids, he’s talking about her… uh… shoelaces.). Production crew The Dream Team back Masspike Miles’ soulfully-crooned vocals with an appropriately steamy beat, mixing delicate ivory-tinkling with simmering synths and hip-hop percussion as the singer lets his girl know exactly how much he’s looking forward to their reunion. Has Masspike Miles’ streetwise-yet-smooth style added up to another banger? If you think so, be sure to pick up a copy of the Maybach Music signee’s Super Fly street album when it drops on June 7.

Paid in full percussion... production is a little crowded. Vocals above par.

The jury is still out on Masspike Miles (the hype has not matched the output thus far), but I like this song. I cannot put my finger on that sample (anyone? I am having a brain fart), but along with Miles vocals this record is a rotation-worthy song.

The Dream Team is my favorite trio. Of course I am talking about Yung Berg, K-Young & Rob Holladay, not these producers with the same name. I'm not sure about this production team as a whole, but I did in fact enjoy the beat.
Masspike Miles has a very nice and smooth voice. So smooth to the point where I just have to pay attention to what the man is saying. All together track wasn't nothing too special, and the end result is definitely rotation worthy because of that hook. |

Nice beat and the subject def hits home. I know a lot of my radio listeners are gonna relate to this. Got a lot of faithful listeners on lockdown. These songs always lift them up.

Great point Z. The talent is there, but there isn't a record in my collection that I can point to and say "This is dope". Another miss.

his voice doesn't come off strongly on the verses. Almost to the point that I question how well he can sing. But anyways it's okay. the hook is decent but it really doesnt seem like he can sing that well.

I dont think his smooth vocals exactly match up with this type of prodction, i see somebody like LL Cool J, or even Ja Rule on somethin like this.

Props to Richard for the "shoelaces" line in the intro. That ish had be laughing out loud.
I'm always a little surprised by how much I like Masspike Miles, the man's got a legitimate voice. With that said, this track's not my favorite, it feels a little formulaic, but it's still a winner. DJ Z, are those the drums from paid in full? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7t8eoA_1jQ |

First time we've heard him on the Booth minus his bawse...and this one I could definitely cruise to. Also giving props for the topical variety!
P.S. That shoelaces line Richard typed made me crack up too! |

Good production but with questionable vocals. I do like the synth involvement and the subtle tinkling going on with overused but always effective percussion. I guess I can see the charm and I can picture this song ending up on radio, but for me the vocals are lacking that spark. I'll put it in rotation.
