Marsha Ambrosius - Hope She Cheats on You (With a Basketball Player)
Artist: Marsha Ambrosius
Producer: Marsha Ambrosius and Canei
Album: Late Nights & Early Mornings
Label: RCA
When Buddha went through a bad break-up I’m sure he sincerely wished his ex nothing but the best. The rest of us, however, get busy making voodoo dolls, and Marsha Ambrosius is no different. In fact, she wishes her ex a very specific fate; she Hope She Cheats On You (With A Basketball Player). Ambrosius, who’s best known as half of Floetry and for guest work on classic tracks like The Art of Storytellin (Part 4), is finally ready to release her solo debut album, and if Hope She Cheats is any indication, the wait might actually have been worth it. In addition to (of course) providing some stellar vocals and relatable lyrics - who knew you could use “Kardashian” as a verb? - Ambrosius also co-produced the cut along with Canei, lacing a slowly snapping beat as strong as the woman behind it. If you’re meditating your way through break-up good for you, but the rest of us have a new revenge anthem. We’ll finally hear what Ambrosius is full capable of when her upcoming album Late Nights & Early Mornings drops on October 26.

Great voice, catchy song, but who can take a record with the title "Hope She Cheats on You (With a Basketball Player)" seriously? I can't.

she has got the voice, but I think Z got it right with the title... then hearing it over and over in the track... kind of makes you laugh.

I don't think this is corny, and I can take this seriously. Reason being: it is a raw emotion that I feel like many can relate to if they've gone through a similar situation. The track is catchy, the production is well done, and the vocals are on point. No reason for me to dislike this track.

the beat works with the theme of the song so marsha co-producing the track certainly helped in that respect. her vocals are great but yeah @Z, the title (which usually i wouldnt care about) turns me off this one

As a huge Marsha fan I'm stoked to hear she's finally got a debut album in the works - the Sincerely Yours EP she dropped a few months back was incredible. With that said, this one seems a little more geared towards radio - I like her more in slow jam mode - but I can't hate. Even when the production's lighter, she's still got one of the best voices around.
And the title may not be Shakespearean, but when you see it you have to listen to the track, and you don't forget it, which I'm sure is the reaction J Records is trying to get out of radio programmers. |

dope beat, lyrical lyrics..have to agree though, i can't really take it seriously. This is one of those tracks you leave for the listener to find..on your album, not the radio.

This track is DOPE. Ol girl is saying something that i have NEVER heard before on a track. How often do we hear r&b joints about how good he can give it to her, or how bad she needs her? yawwwwwn.
Thanks 4 this track Marsha! |

This is a funny track, it seems almost like a parody. I cant in the right mind bump this ever again. How is she not laughing her @$$ off while "singing" this?

has this what real r&b comes down to a stupid song saying i hope she cheats on you with a basketball player, she could not use a better metaphore than this the lyrics are immature and shows no growth as a person or songwriter. if this is our hope for real R&B then someone please throw it a life jacket. This song is the most stupidest song I have ever heard next to Your a Jerk, the Dj's need to be shot for pushing this BS on to the public
