Marsha Ambrosius - Heartbreaker
Artist: Marsha Ambrosius
Producer: Focus
Album: Yours Truly: Revisited Mixtape
Label: RCA
Floetry alumnus Marsha Ambrosius has yet to release a studio album, but it seems that her solo career is already going swimmingly—her second mixtape, Yours Truly, was so successful that the singer has opted for a re-release featuring brand new tracks. Leaked via Ambrosius’ Twitter, Heartbreaker features all the elements that made YT a fan favorite the first time around: Aftermath in-house producer Focus (recently featured on Mr. Probz’, All Falls Down) delivers a brassy funk-soul instrumental as Marsha lets an unappreciative fella know she won’t be taking him back anytime soon. This record’s theme is practically as old as soul itself, but Ambrosius approaches it with more energy than most—her full-voiced vocals, peppered with melismatic runs and breathy interjections, make Heartbreaker one of the most powerful R&B kiss-offs in recent memory. If you agree that Ambrosius and Focus’ retro-soul sound merits another go-round, stay tuned; Yours Truly: Revisited is set to drop “soon.”

This is a strong song from Marsha. I she sent the link to her mixtape today on twitter. She has a fantastic voice. I'm curious to see how her solo career takes off. Both of the ladies from floatry have serious talent. A track they wrote and produced For MJ, Butterflies was my favorite song off of his Invincible LP. I look forward to more of these gifted young women.

For the amount of studio sessions I am sure Marsha and Focus have had over the last few years at Aftermath, its no wonder that gems like HEARTBREAKER keep making their way into the Booth. I dig the mixtape re-release, but we need a few singles and an album already.

This girl is another talented female R&B artist on the way up. Production is good & Marsha has some great vocals.
About her releasing a album soon, I just cant see it happening any time soon. I think that because Aftermath/Interscope seem to have no intention on taking risks during this financial crisis, which is a shame as id love to hear a LP from the likes of Marsha & Lamont (another Aftermath/Interscope artist). |

This isn't objectionable in any way, but it's also not very memorable. Easy rotation.

horns are sick, vocals are tight. i can already see the video for this: marshmellow blows cigar smoke into a dudes face and puts the cigar out in his drink b4 taking the stage and looking him dead in his face when she sings it. then struts off the stage looking hella fierce into a waiting car (has to be a classic car though).
