Just when I thought I’d heard every possible variation on the “love song” theme, someone comes along with a concept that’s completely new to me. In this case, the “someone” is DMV buzzmaker (and DJBooth.net Freestyle Series alum) Marky, bringing us a record based on his real-life romance with a deaf and mute woman. Along with its intriguing (and, as far as I know, very original) premise, mixtape inclusion Silent Beauty boasts the boardwork of a production heavyweight; hitmaking beatsmith Boi-1da (also featured today on Red Cafe‘s I’m Ill (Remix)) serves up a smooth blend of vibraphone, strings and piano as the emcee pays tribute to the girl who stole his heart without saying a single word. Great storytelling job here by Marky. Most rappers struggle to stay focused on a specific topic or theme (ADD runs rampant in this industry), but that isn't the case here. The Boi-1da production is real nice - especially building up to and comes down from the chorus. This new EP should be a real quality listen.

is this a freestyle lol yea right...this doesn't blow me out...i mean its cool...but i feel the comback season drake would have killed this...its just mellow not horribly bad just not exciting...don't like the hook..boi 1da to me hasn't made a bad beat...storytelling is cool but to me it doesn't mean nothing if you don't flow as much that was the point of hip-hop in the beginning...off the top of my head 3 stacks would have put this beat into a submissive choke hold, ive been missing him for a while anybody else agree with that statement?!

I hate to disagree with my man Richard, but this isn't the first time we've heard a love song to a disabled girl. Come on Richard, how could you overlook Lionel Richie's classic "Hello"? You're better than that.
In all seriousness, while I can't say I'm in love with this cut, I'm definitely digging the live instrument feel, and after Victory Lap it proves that Marky's got some real versatility. Long story short, I wouldn't be surprised if he has a hit single soon.

Boi-1da, great work on the beat. This is real smooth en nice. Relaxing. Marky's ability on this track didn't blow me away, but it made me wanting more. Will look out for his EP

Ain't really feeling the production (too percussion heavy for me), but Marky's ability to piece together a great story more than makes up for it. Nice listen!

Man after listening to this ALOT en ALOTTA more I have truly fallen for this track, Marky, u got me like a puppet boi :p From rotation to CLASSIC.

After listening to this over the past month, it has grown on me. The beat is cool and mellow. His flow is mad nice with the beat.
