Fresh off the wave of reader acclaim he garnered for Full Clip, a Booth-premiered freestyle dedicated to late Northeastern hip-hop icon Guru, DMV up-and-comer Marky draws inspiration from a somewhat more surprising musical idol on the latest leak off his forthcoming, Kevin Nottingham/DJBooth.net-cosponsored street album. Run On finds producer The Madman serving up a synth-fortified sample from country legend Johnny Cash’s classic track God Will Cut You Down as Marky matches the Man in Black’s stone-cold badassitude with fittingly formidable lyricism. Is this rap hopeful destined to become “Bigger than the Northeast, bigger than Maryland, bigger than D.C.?” With the drive and ambition he showcases here, it seems likely. For more from the rising star, check out Journey to Markyland, USA: Rest Stop 2 when it reaches its destination – that is, our front page – on May 12.

I always hear people talking about "real OGs." You wanna know who one of the realest of the reals was (and always will be)? How bout Mr. Johnny Cash!

Its hard to work a sample of his into a rap record and have it feel natural, but props to MadMan for doing a great job. Marky does the rest. End of story.

I would have never thought that a johnny Cash sample would have worked in a rap song, and I'm pleasantly surprised. Marky's great, the production is great, the whole thing is great. I know what I'll be checking out on March 12!

Crazy good sample selection is rewarded with a hot record in the end. And Marky steps up to the challenge, proving that he's also no slouch when it comes to bragging and boasting, but more importantly the ambition is there.

I knew when I heard "Full Clip" that it'd be a good idea to check Marky's next feature! ;)

Man, Johnny Cash... what a way to start a song! Crazy sample! The claps combined perfectly with the background guitar, but the synth was a little overwhelming. :s
The bridge on the other hand worked very well!

Marky's confidence is backed up by real emceeing skill, so I can take it!

He has a nice voice, but he needs to work on flow and delivery to be great. But this work is pretty impressive.

3.5 Rounding down.

The production and Johnny's sample was epic, I can't say the same for Marky. His flow didn't get my attention, I had to really pay attention to what he was saying, and if an artist has easy delivery and a natural flow, this isnt a problem. I think Marky as a rapper is undeveloped and still needs to learn how to get his message across, because he has a good message, but I will be hard pressed to find anyone who will listen to him with lazy vocals. Johnny can only carry him so far.

Def pushing the box with this and the funny thing is that Johnny Cash is turning over in his grave again because rumor is that he hated african-americans and people of color haha...but damn this is def fresh though cause i would never think to do some shit like this, not that i wouldn't sample some ol' dude that hates blacks but this type of song and cash's vocals sound just a tad bit off but it really doesn't take away from the whole song....and the best is pretty banging...and lil marky did his thing i will def be putting this in my rotation because i think he held back on this track but the idea and the thought is def. there med. rotation...and def a bump in the ride this summer btw have anyone heard of that new drake and big sean song made it is pretty hot can't wait till the booth feature it if that haven't already...

Let me be the latest to say that I'm loving this sample. See rappers, it's not that hard to go out the box and still sound dope. It's really not.

Judging by the comment Mary's definitely building a fan base in the Booth, and I'll count myself among the supporters. He's only been on my radar for a month or so, but he continues to impress.

I'm not a fan of the sample, but when the beat came in and Marky started rapping, he had my full attention. I like how Marky tried something different. I was not expecting to hear Johhny Cash incorporated into a rap track.

This was good. I really liked the change in beat near the end of the song. All three of Marky's verses were very consistent and while I may not see this as a classic, it is definitely unique... in a good way. Production is the real star, with Marky in for a close second. Even though the sample was a big part of the song, it was the only thing that was holding this track back IMO. 3.5

Sample is nice on this one. The beat is kinda lacking though. Marky has been on my radar for a while. His last few tracks on the Booth have been hot. This one is also.

HaHa Johnny Cash made it to hip-hop. Sick production on this. Reminds me of Rhymefest familiar faces. Good job on this. Not quite sure if Cash should be included in many hiphop songs but it works well here.
