Plenty of rappers dream of soaring through the stratosphere in private jets (or, in some cases, lifting off the ground by sheer force of THC consumption), but Booth-acclaimed up-and-comer (and freestyle series alum) Marky has his sights set much higher. On inaugural EP leak Rocket Man, the DMV native hops into his spacecraft and prepares to blast off into the farthest reaches of the musical galaxy. Sampled from Elton John’s ‘72 hit of the same name, The Madman‘s piano-driven instrumental sets a determined mood as the emcee informs those slow on the uptake that, like it or not, he’s headed to infinity and beyond: “You thought my motherf*ckin’ day was never gonna come / funny how the tables turned so quickly / I ain’t gotta prove sh*t, God gonna get me.” This buzzmaker’s trajectory toward success is already well underway, but there’s still time to jump on board the bandwagon… I mean, “band-rocket.” While you’re waiting for Marky’s iLLVibes/GoWhereHipHop-presented Journey to Markyland, USA: Rest Stop 3 EP (coming soon), why not check out the DJBooth-sponsored Rest Stop 2, available here for free streaming and download?

Usually, I'm against the creation of songs like "Rocket Man." For starters, Elton John is a musical genius, whose work always deserves the respect of his fellow industry peers. Second, if in an attempt to recreate a record you end up ruining the song, nobody benefits and everyone loses. THANKFULLY, that does not happen here.

Marky's take on Elton's classic is fresh and doesn't come across as corny at all. Props to MadMan for that last complement, because he largely leaves the vocals sample untouched instead of trying to chipmunkize it. Good stuff.

Marky has the voice and flow to set him apart from all these other up and coming artists and Rocket Man does not disappoint!!
I felt as if the tempo was a little slow but other than that Marky is one of my favorite up and coming rappers slightly below Laws!!

Have to agree with BG on Marky coming in on the intro, didnt like that much but after that...Wow the beat hit hard as shit and Marky brought the bars. Dope sample. Dope beat. Dope verses.

The suspense on the intro is crazy as you wait to hear how they're going to flip Rocket Man - well done Madman. Perfectly decent flow from Marky, but honestly not one of my favorites from the man. I feel like there was some energy lacking in the verses.

Holy crap, wow. Im a big fan of elton, and the whole 70's music and film culture in general and this def. was done with some original thought and creativity. And ylou cant go wrong with samplin some elton on the hook. Marky goes in on all his verses. this is easy 4.5 stars.

I give Marky 3 stars because I like his flow on this track. I give the beat 2 stars, because it was lacking to me. It needed some more variation to it. The sample was hot, I just wish it was used differently. I do like the "Rocket Man" ad libs Marky does, and I like how the beat played out in the end. Nice vibe to it. Overall, not bad. Personally I think Marky shined here.
