Marky - Louis Squares
Artist: Marky
Producer: DJ Dyber
Album: Journey to Markyland, USA: Rest Stop 2
Label: WinningStreak/SRC/Universal Motown
In an age of global overconsumption, the flawed adage of “more is better” is being pushed to make everyone believe that money can buy happiness. If you’re like most of America and can’t decide whether you should spend your next paycheck on food or a sick new pair of Dunks, I highly recommend you take a listen to Marky’s latest track, Louis Squares, which originally premiered on our Infamy Radio Countdown. The sparkling and soulful production from DJ Dyber works well with the freestyle alum’s delivery as Marky not only shines a light on the materialistic and the fake, but more importantly offers his solution on how to rise above it all: “To prove I’m someone else all I do is be myself, the only friend I have is music, I don’t need nobody else.” If only Wall St. felt the same way maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess. If you liked Louis Sqaures, be sure to check out Journey to Markyland, USA: Rest Stop 2, co-presented by KevinNottingham.com and DJBooth.net, dropping this Thursday on our homepage. Stay original.

I REALLY hope people don't sleep on this record because of its title. Marky is one of my favorite emcees right now and this record captures everything I like about him (honest quality, dope delivery, quality flow, terrific beat selection). Listen and become a fan (if you have not already).

Anyone else hear a little Jay-Z in Marky's voice? I don't know...it's probably just me.
A good portion of this track is dedicated to the hook, so I can't say his verses stood out too much, but it's still a relaxing, noteworthy jam. Sidebar: Finally someone's giving a genuine smile in their promo picture! |

Marky's flow on this is stellar. Hook wasn't exactly to my liking, but at least it isn't another Johnny Cash sample. I must say, I definitely feel more inclined to check out alot of his previous material now that I have heard this track and "Run On." Thursday should be a good day for Hip-Hop.

Breaking down the song into each category, this guy just writes solid all over it. Beat-solid Flow-Solid Verses-Solid, Everything is there, Probably won't catch much attention but he deserves some.

This man is on a quest for the DMV and you can sense it every time he steps to the mic. Very dope, good versatility shown coming from a favorite of mine, "Run On". Got a big "X" marked on my calender for this Thursday.

Wait? Buying clothes won't make me completely and permanently happy? Goddamnit. Now what am I going to do with this closet full of Gucci scarves?
It's a little sad that Marky's message is so original, but at least someone's saying what we all need to hear. This is the type of track that really makes me stoked to hear Markyland. The production's stellar and Marky's lyrical content and flow are on point. What more could you ask for? |

The backdrop is a little too familiar for me to push this past rotation, but this dude has talent. Nice bars as usual, and the chorus is well done.
