After the death of street rap pioneer and Gang Starr founding father Guru, tributes have been pouring in from all corners of hip-hop nation; to quote Joni Mitchell, don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you got till it’s gone? But here to make sure that Guru’s memory lives on - in our eardrums at least -  is Marky, the DMV native who recently dropped off his Booth-approved track Silent Beauty, and his new leak Full Clip, making its world premier on our pages. Here Marky takes the original, darkly dope DJ Premier production for Gang Starr’s track of the same name…pause for a moment to appreciate Premier’s skills…and layers it with his own distinct blend of wordplay and no holds barred aggressiveness, dropping lines that come in lyrical jab-uppercut-jab combinations. So how about it Booth? Did Marky do Guru’s legacy justice? Full Clip is the second stop on Marky’s DJBooth and KevinNottingham co-hosted project Journey to Markyland: Rest Stop 2, which is scheduled to land May 12.

With so many artists churning out completely wack (and inappropriate) Guru tribute raps, its great to hear an artist lay tribute in both a respectful and talented manner. Needless to say, if you're a regular at the Booth you've heard of and probably love Marky. If you're not, I believe listening to "Full Clip" will do the trick.

When the production hit my ear phones, I immediately thought Banger, but unfortunately this track falls a tad short of receiving that title. Production on this was nice. DJ Premier hooked this track up in a good way, however, I think I liked Gang Starr's version a little bit better.

Marky was able to keep my attention for the majority of the song, so his flow was definitely above average. Kind of feel as though this track is missing that POW factor to truly elevate it up to that next level though. This was a pretty cool track. 3.5

Throwback DJ Premier beat...its real nice and simple!

Marky really only unloaded a "half clip" considering the tribute was rather short....but that clip had some power to it. He has some good qualities and is able to throw in some catchy lyrics all while telling a nice little story. He has different styles too in which he can rap to the beat and then speed up his flow.

Thanks DJbooth for another artist I have been introduced too because I will be checking out more of this man's stuff!

I think it goes without saying that the Gang Starr version was better, but that's a tribute to their greatness, not any failing on Marky's part. I've heard an onslaught of Guru tributes in the past few days, and this is definitely one of the best. Just one of the dopest flat out lyrical performances we've heard from Marky yet. Watch out for this kid, I'm telling ya.
