Since Mark Morrison‘s ‘90s heyday, the Return of the Mack hitmaker’s career has been rocked by numerous legal and personal issues, punctuated by sporadic, well, returns to the game. Through all his troubles, however, the UK singer has always considered himself an Innocent Man – and on his latest single, he drives the point home by quoting the last words (according to Luke) of history’s most famous martyr: “Father Forgive Them, for they know not what they do.” Backed by his and co-producer SP Soul‘s string-laced instrumental, Morrison lets listeners know that that he’s back from the netherworld, this time (hopefully) for good. Supporting the headliner as he makes his grand re-entrance are dancehall heavyweight Beenie Man and Cali underground mainstay Crooked I, the former dropping two spiritually-themed verses in his trademark patois, and the latter pronouncing himself “the illest in the West” on the back end. Those who like what they’re hearing can find more on the artist’s Popeye-parahrasing I Am What I Am LP when it drops this fall.

There is nothing Mark Morrison can do to recreate the success of "Return of the Mack," but at least he is still trying. If you are not a Beenie Man fan, you might not stick around long enough to enjoy Morrison's vocals or Crooked I's dope end bars, but if you do (or are patience) there is a lot to enjoy here. Welcome back, Mark.

How can you not mention "Return of The Mack" when speaking of Mark Morrison? Which is exactly the problem...

Dude kind of looks like a much larger version of Tyrese in that picture.

Maybe it's just because I'm not as well verses in dancehall, but I just couldn't connect with this one. I loved Damian on Distant Relatives, but I can't follow Beenie Man, and while Morrisson drops a decent verse, it's not particularly memorable. Ah, it's ok.

Personally, this is NOT my cup of tea, but it warrants rotation. Not the type of record I would expect to hear Crooked I jump on.

He'll never make a track anywhere near as good as Return Of The Mack (Still gets mad spins on my ipod). Crooked I's verse was good, though other then that this was a pretty ordinary track

Did we miss Mark Morrisons's strange style of singing? Didn't like the beat choice either. It was a good beat, just not the right beat for this song. I do however miss Beenie Man gracing the radio preferably on a Neptune produced track. And whats Crooked I doing on here? I'm not sure either but Mark Morrison can relish in the thought that he was returned as "The Mack" back in the 90's. There's no need for him to return again if this is what he has to offer.
