Marion Write - This Ain't a Movie
Artist: Marion Write
Producer: Marion Write
Album: Write History
Label: Flo Deep Music Group
Artists that can both create successful beats and drop great poetry in their lyrics are hard to come by. Included in this class of multi-talents is up and comer Marion Write with his latest single This Ain’t a Movie, a powerful track that explores the America’s inner workings. In his own words, Write describes the track as metaphorically portraying how the rap game is a career, not just a hobby. Write explores many of the problems that the US is facing, comparing them to some of our iconic films to deliver a bigger punch (“Kids is uneducated, skipping school like Ferris Bueller”) with the help of feature artist Theorian. If you liked this track, be sure to check out his latest project, the Write History mixtape, out 4/26. This will be the last leak off his upcoming mixtape and will be mixed with RubyHornet’s DJ RTC.

Wordplay by Marion Write is tight on this track. Its the type of song you have to listen to more than once in order to absorb everything that was said on it. Makes you think too about what it is trying to say and how you can relate to what he is talking about.
Chrous is strong too. Has that bite of reality in it. Not something that will make radio play but thats just because its too much for some people to handle. A very solid track that proves reality is b*tch, 3 1/2 stars rounded up. |

Write is an artist that doesn't make bad records (see K. Sparks, Novel, XV, etc...), but some are just better than others. This is a new look for him - I don't remember much of his previously-featured songs being as "street" - but it shows his diversity. Thought this isn't his typical style, the effort is executed well and never comes across as forced. I cannot say the same of the guest nod, but hey...
Extra marks for the "Booth" mentions (which have nothing to do with DJBooth, but always catch my ear). |

For starters, let me just say that this track carries a completely different vibe than Marion's recent (Classic) track "Dreams."
The production kind of sounds like an alarm from a prison is going off or something. I'm not quite sure, still pretty good though. Marion's flow is always top notch, but I kind of feel as though Theorian topped him. Marion's flow was good for the first and second verse, but Theorian came in like beast and laced this production with his crazy word play. Definitely not a classic, so I think I'll just end off by saying that this was impressive, nonetheless. |

naw this aint no movie, this is a song and a pretty good one at that.
i love that intro but its way too long so for mp3 play cut it shorter but the flow now that, thats amazingly good and i realy like the background singer within the instrumental. the speed up in the middle is pretty fire aswell as the change up in the beat(faster synth) thats really tight. its an enjoyable track but it doesn't feel emotional or unique enough too be a banger but its close 3.5s no doubt |

This was really good. I liked the lyrics, but I think that the flow of the song could have been a little faster.

The intro needs to be shorter and the chorus could be better. This dude as good flow, but not the right beat for him I believe. Another different production that is a bit out there for me. Has a good story, but not my thing.

When I say the title of the song, I had no idea where he was gonna take it, basically no idea what to expect. After listening to it thoroughly,
the flow was great and it carried the beat, which was catchy, really nicely. The concept of the song was really what made it so appealing, its not just a movie, "there is real blood spilling." Production was tight, especially since he did it himself. I really don't have any complaints here, good idea, executed right. |

Fabulous narrative here. Grabs your attention right away like a great opening line of a well-written literature.
The booming siren in the background is money. It is EXACTLY like a soundtrack song, complementing Write's rap. Not exactly the most radio friendly song, but it had me nodding my head the whole time. Props on neat movie references as well. I wish there was more rawness to it. Just like an independent film from an unknown director. Cut! |

Not feeling this very much. At times his flow sounds very generic imo. Hope to hear something better in the near future from Marion.

Not as good as some of his previous joints but still a fine listen. I know there is no need to bring in comparison (even with artist's own catalog) but as @Z said - "some are just better than others."
I guess its the production, not bad but not appealing enough for me. Though lyrically Marion Write is consistently good stuff with a refined delivery. Rotation-Stuff! |

The beat sounds like it's missing something to really be a finished product!!
Marion never disappoints on the lyricism side!! |

I like this. The lyrics and the type melody to the beat is a banger. Def. straight hotness.

The second I started the track I immediately fell in love with the production. I'm a sucker for these hyped up tracks.
Write stands tall on these verses. If the chorus was a bit stronger, I'd have no problem passing this a 4.5 but I'm going to have to roll with a banger rating on this one. Nice track. |

Marion Write is a beast with a flow. Loved his previous songs and his freestyle was sick! This is good also. Loving the percussion on this and he maintains a nice flow.

Beat is nothing special but its not bad either...I mean he produced it himself so that's good enough for me. This is nice though...Marion's bars are better then most rappers out there...and even the guest feauture Theorian went crazy with his fast delivery. Both did a grade A job but this track is missing something to make is a really special one.

That production is tru warning music and I'm hearing them...lit is on point and even though I kind of shun the major effort to annunciate every verb n noun but I respect the flo of both poets...I agree with DJ Brook you def. have to hear it more than 1x to get it in your cells and I don't mind at all.

Marion has done much better, this production doesn't agree with him at all. I think he watered down himself a little for this specific track.

I've been listening to this song for a while since it was featured and, sometimes, ignorance is bliss: I didn't know Marion produced this and I was curious about the impressive work, so to know it just now made the admiration effect higher! ;)
The non-stop rhythmic synth in the background is gripping, the voices are exquisite, the brief piano steals the show when it comes just like the strings. And all that was done by a guy who happens to be a pretty interesting rapper too. We can expect great things from him. |
