Marion Write - Field of the Dollar
Artist: Marion Write
Producer: Two3
Album: Illustrated Example
Label: Flo Deep Music Group
There’s no doubt about it: our nation’s gambling capital has given birth to a hip-hop scene too big, and too dope to simply stay in Vegas. To truly come into its own, however, a town needs to develop a style that couldn’t come from anywhere else; so what might the Sin City revolution sound like? Field of the Dollar, the latest feature from reader fave and freestyle series alum Marion Write, offers an intriguing glimpse. Here, FloDeep in-house producer Two3 mans the boards, flipping a sample from jazz bassist Stanley Clarke’s Soldier into a beat that’d sound right at home in a smoky lounge. Flowing with confidence over the unconventional instrumental, Write mixes impressionistic reflections on his city’s history with vivid narrative rhymes and philosophical musings. “Ask Bugsy Siegel why our city’s so evil, jazzy, kilos move throughout the people, everybody tryin’ to Scarface, blue suit, peacoat…” Easily one of the most innovative joints I’ve heard in a minute, Field of the Dollar is set for inclusion on Write’s forthcoming Illustrated Example LP, which has yet to receive a release date – keep it locked!

Talk about non-traditional hip hop beats that don't sound like they could work at all... that end up being an unusually enjoyable complement to a talented emcee? Yup, I'm talking about "Field of the Dollar."

I agree Z. Definitely something different, but it works. Marion Write came through in a big way with this one. I really like how the beat builds up to the epic hook. Keep up the good work Marion.

Vegas stand up. I can say I know Marion's music well, but I didn't see this coming - one a musical and lyrical level, this is pure jazz. The inventive energy is crazy, makes me want to break out that Miles and Thelonious.
No one else is going music like this. No one. |

Wussup people this is Jspence 1/2 of TWO3 and I'm really glad you guys are liking this track. This jazzy selection was made to make the already vivid lyrics pop out even more. But thanks again for recognizing good music and what were trying to do out here in vegas.

I think that the beat takes away from the song. Could have been arrange better highlight the flow and lyrics by aleast have more drums to carry the flow. Great concept but wasn't pulled off as one would hope with that sound.

Why didn't they just lead in with the climatic instrumental in the beginning, instead they went with elevator music?
