Mario Winans - Here Comes the Pain
Artist: Mario Winans
Producer: Mario Winans
Album: Untitled
Label: Rio World Music/Atlantic Records
Turn down the lights, pour a drink and cue up the Boyz II Men, it’s break-up time again. Speaking from recent experience, ending a relationship (or having it end on you) comes with some heavy emotional realizations, one of the strongest being “So what’s next?” While Mario Winans’ isn’t expressing his heartache by standing outside in the rain with a boom box a la John Cusack, he did decide to help heal the pain of a lost love through song. The Grammy nominated Detroit native, who’s the son of gospel legend Vickie Winans, also did his own production for this track, putting the kind of up-tempo beat behind his soulful vocals that aren’t usually seen in such a somber ballad (never has moving on sounded so good). While Winans’ currently untitled next project isn’t set to drop until September of this year, he is participating in the Dream Big Artist Showcase tour, starting in February and coming soon to a city near you. As always, keep it locked to the Booth for more.

Wow this was a really good song, except for the fact that it was like 2 minutes long. The production and his vocals were perfect together though (not surprising since he produced it). 4 stars.

Mario's a great writer and vocalist but the production behind it was just decent. I felt it could of been better some how but still a good song. I don't know why he would made it so short, but it dosent feel complete.

Soon as the beat came on i started to nod my head...not single type but it would be great for a mixtape song great piano. I can sleep and dream to this! Feel like he could have made the vocals stand out and its really short...

wtf?
1st of all, Mario Winans? really? its like its 2003 or somthin again. not a bad thing, jus brings back old old times. 2nd, is this even an offical song, or a snippet? that is one short song. 3rd, the intro sounded good, but thats bout all the song was. prob would be a 4 if it was longer, instead its a 3. |

I've always been a fan of Mario's work. I dig his production style a little more than his singing voice, but I cannot say anything negative about the effort. Its enjoyable, but nothing that blows me away. If he wrote this and produced this for another artist (Trey? Mario?) I think I would bump this up one star.
Looking forward to an interview with Mr. Winans - coming soon. |

On a track like this you're waiting for it to really grip you, make you feel the pain, but that just doesn't happen for me here. Definitely a well-crafted track, but I didn't connect with it like I thought I would.
Ironically I feel like the other Mario could have killed this. |
