Now that Mariah Carey isn’t busy honeymooning with Nick Cannon, beefing with Eminem or flaunting her considerable…um…assets on Macy’s commercials, she’s back to doing what she does best, making hits with her new track Ribbon. (Mrs. Carey has more number one singles than anyone in history, except for the Beatles.) Over some typically electronically soaked production from The-Dream and Tricky Stewart – Mariah even tries out a couple of Dream’s signature “a”s – Mariah delivers yet another track for fans to hyperventilate over. Do Mariah’s vocals work as well with The-Dream’s production style as it did with Jermaine Dupri’s bouncing, up-tempo beats? That’s for the DJBooth to decide. While not an official single, expect Ribbon to generate some serious buzz for her upcoming album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, set to drop September, 29.

Mariah and The Dream are turning out to be like Peanut Butter and Jelly. Heard of another song that dropped today called Hate U (haven't listened to it yet) but it was also produced by Dream and Tricky. I really liked the production on here, very clean but hard at the same time, if that's possible. The chopped and screwed voice in the chorus gave it a little bit of bounce and street appeal, even for an MC record. Real hot cut.

This strikes me as a record that could have been penned for his own album (the unisex angle is clear), but kept open for purchase. Since I assume Mariah still can belt out the high notes, I prefer something that showcases that... not this. Solid album track!

Ill admit that 'Obsessed' did grow on me, but I cant see myself ever liking this. The production is pretty average from Tricky & the lyrics aint super flash either (and im saying that as a fan of The-Dream's work)

This record is mediocre at best. The production sounds really sub-par and it's just really not that good. I loved Mariah's vocals, but the production could have been better.

@Z - You are right, I've heard a Demo Version of this joint done by The-Dream on net somewhere.
Typical electronically soaked synthy production provides a nice chilled-out melody. I am feeling this production, its nothing really great, but Im liking it nonetheless. Mariah's low notes are much better than what we hear from her right here. Overall, its kinda smooth and appealing song to play to get the mood going but nothing special. Rotation-Stuff. |

I spent a solid minute staring at the photo until I figured out Mariah was covering herself with a giant hat. Um....ok.
Anyway, you'd be hard pressed to find a bigger Dream fan than me, but this sounds like something that would have been better served if it came off of Love vs. Money. Mariah needs something a little bit more uptempo than this, the chemistry's just a little but off.

This song is a typical Mimi song lyric wise...the production is what makes this song what it is not one of my stand out tracks on the album (See HATE U and Angels Cry) but this is something i'd bump thru my speakers

i LOVE this record! i do miss mariah singing full out instead of this talk singing thing that a lot of artists are doing, but still, it's great. Love her Dream inspired "eh eh eh's" too!
