Is any current artist more controversial among Booth readers than Nicki Minaj? To answer my own rhetorical question, no. Your feelings on the Young Money femcee will likely be the deciding factor in how you rate this remix of Mariah Carey‘s Up Out My Face, a Dream & Tricky Stewart-produced head-nodder off ‘09’s Memoirs of a Perfect Angel. This version of the cut sees Minaj bookending Carey’s silky-smooth kiss-offs with typically off-the-wall opening and closing bars, tipping the headliner off about her man’s infidelity: “...I was in the million-dollar meetings, he was cheatin’/ All up in the church, sneakin’ with the deacon.” Personally, I find the goofy accent and free-associated lyrics entertaining as hell, but our own Nathan S. disagreed over on RefinedHype, claiming that Minaj ruined the record. I’ll let you, the readers, have the final call. In any case, Mariah fans can hear more revamped versions of MoaIA tracks (and a few new cuts) on remix album Angels Advocate, due out Feb. 23.

I'll never understand the hype over Nicki. Her voice is just so nauseating I can't even bother listening to the lyrics. Anyways, guest feature aside, this is a pretty decent track. I don't see it becoming a big hit but its definitely a step up from filler-material. It's in rotation.

I loved the original, this is just as good if not better. I LOVE Nicki's spontaneous, sexy style. Maybe this will be the hit Mariah has been looking for for months....

I've been sold on Nicki for a minute, but she keeps bringing more energy to every song she touches that it's easy to like her more and more. This was a good remix for Mariah to also shine and segway into the remix album.

I dont get the hype over Nicki, her voice is just annoying imo. She ruined 'Little Freak' by Usher & I think she ruined this as well. If you want to get a female MC on your tracks, why not go with Eve or Trina?
The production is the highlight, though Mariah sounded reasonably good. |

I wasnt a fan of Memoirs, and this re-release appears to be a classic case of label damage control after the sales tanked as well (at least for mariah's standards)
I like this song, its got that throwback R&b feel. I think the key here is Dreams Shawty Is The Sh!t style production. Mariah sounded good, although i prefer when she is using her full voice, than her whispery sing song flow. Nikki Minaj is just straight up entertaining! Her flow, accent, although sometimes annoying, keeps things interesting. I think Angels Cry featuring Ne-Yo is so much better than this, that one is classic! |

I love mariah (a.k.a. my future wife, lol) on here and the production is good too. for me nicki doesnt always have bad lyrics, but her voice is pretty annoying. But actually, she adds some energy to this track that probably wouldnt be there without her.

You really can't go wrong with Nicki Minaj on a feature verse (she absolutely killed it on Usher's Little Freak). I find her style to be quite catchy and even though she doesn't always bring the highest of caliber bars she always delivers either way (listen to We Are Young Money and you'll realize she's actually pretty good.
I wasn't really feeling this song though. Mariah was okay and Tricky's and The-Dream's production was catchy as always. But in the end this just didn't do anything for me. I'm not sure how much of an impact this song will make. |

Absolutely an upgrade from Original, in my opinion.
@b90g09 nailed it on head. Nicki Minaj is hardly a great lyricist but her gleeful insane delivery makes for an enjoyable/memorable listen. |

To start I happen to enjoy Nicki Minaj, is there room for improvement, YES, but enjoyable - absolutely.
This song is just okay for me. @ Assie_Pride I have to disagree, I think Little Freak with Usher ft. NM is great, I think her part really makes it a better song overall. |

This is not nicki's best verse but it was good to make a banger. Mariah Carey is putting out records but she is not pushing herself to the limit where she can make classic music like in the past.
