Sometimes, the title of a record sums it up so well that any further comments feel redundant. The first DJBooth feature and latest promo single from Mara Hruby, is one of those cases. A proper blurb requires more than two lonely sentences, though, so I’ll go ahead and state the obvious. Simply Beautiful is, as advertised, beautiful in its simplicity. Backed by the spare, acoustic-guitar strums of Nate Mercereau and Steve Wyreman, the Oakland singer/songwriter addresses a potential suitor, offering a straightforward, no-nonsense account of what she expects out of their relationship: “If I gave you my love / I’ll tell you what I’d do / I’d expect a whole lotta love out of you.” Feeling Mara’s smoky vocal presence and intimate aesthetic?
