More than five years after the release of his debut studio album (and four since his split with Cash Money), emcee/songwriter/producer Mannie Fresh has officially returned to his solo grind with the digital release of his second full-length. How’s the former Big Tymer been holding up since last we heard from him? According to the project’s lead single, he’s still doin’ it Like a Boss (Slim Thug, anyone?), enjoying the fast life in all its luxuriously expensive glory. Over his own fresh Southern boardwork, driven by bubbling synths and an authoritative piano loop, the New Orleans baller exults in his ongoing financial security, celebrates his musical legacy and reaffirms his loyalty to his hometown, spitting “This my city, this my home/ you heard I was leaving, well n*gga you wrong..” So, does this ever-stunting rapper/producer still sound as Fresh as he did back in 2004? If you think so, you can hear plenty more new tunes on The Return of Ballin, available now from online retailers and set for an independent physical release on November 17.

This was actually surprisingly pleaseant. I was expecting some generic, boring song but I thought the piano worked well here and Mannie sounded good. I'll spin it.

Mannie Fresh makes the same song over and over and over and over. And ya know what? I don't mind. Something about his bouncy production... I cannot hate.
Artists beware, though... don't think you can keep talking about acting like a boss. It doesn't work for everyone.

Mannie's lyrics surprised me. I was expecting Birdman meets Timbo but his verses were a little better. His hooks are always on point. Good production too. 3.5

Haha instantly once the beat hit I just started to laugh. With the pianos in it, it just sounds like it could of been a serious record but instead we get this.
Haha(sorry had to get that out) and how many times are rappers going to rap about me bosses (playas, thugs, pimps, etc.) when were in a reccesion and record sales are low. How many rappers can really be Jay-Z? I swear I must of heard a different song than Z and GStan. |

First of all, Mannie looks like one of those old school Troll dolls in the pic. Second, Mannie's beats are always better when they're banging, the slower pace doesn't work, and lyrically...let's just say no one's going to confuse him with Nas anytime soon. Not impressed.

I'm not too sure the whole "Like a Boss" thing was the best choice, but the song itself is damn good. Nice beat, decent lyrics, and how can you not like Mannie Fresh anyway? Such a lovable guy.

I hate it when artists approach such niiice beats with overplayed topics that we've heard from every artist in every song. But this beat is just too likeable that I can overlook the subject matter and get caught ridin' out with the windows down!!

Classic Mannie beat. Hook is terriable, this would be a banger if an actual mc was on it. This song leaves me wanting more. Beat bumbs though.

Mannie didn't deliver like he's the boss but it still rotates for me. Started off slow but finished really nice. This is a song that you will have to give a few plays to appreciate.

mannie fresh productions is one of my fave no one can really @*#$! with him but let just say let him just do that and hooks and maybe a little rap song being featured but he is not a good song type of dude anyhow i love the dude's music good for coming back
