From across the pond, a brand-new style of hip-hop music has taken a cruise liner straight to the Booth!  The sub-genre is called “runk” (a portmanteau of “rap” and “punk”), and Mams Taylor is its pioneer (if you’ve met my circle of friends, you know it’s gonna catch on!)  His lead single (and Booth debut) finds him resurrecting a formerly-trendy lyrical theme, joining countless past artists as he celebrates the fact his Girl Gotta Girlfriend—now he’ll never have to spend the night alone!  Snoop Dogg and Bobby V take their player style international, but it’s Benny Cassette‘s drum-synth boardwork that makes this Girl Gotta Girlfriend story stand out from the archive-load of similarly-themed jams.  If you’re down with the runk movement, you can get the full experience on Mams’ debut album, Persona Non Grata (set to drop August 25th).

I wonder if Ray Lavender is going to get mad that his song - titled the same - came out roughly three years ago? No? Maybe? Oh well...

Bobby Valentino steals the show here. I wonder how many calls he gets a week for guest hook vocals?

Snoop is Snoop and Mams does decently. Jury might be out to lunch, but this will go in rotation in the meanwhile...

I thought this track had a tight vibe. Bobby certainly had a tight hook, but I thought Mams flowed pretty well and held his own. Snoop sounded real good on this production. I'm gonna have to go with a 3.5 for this one.

I like the sound of this new style, it sounds fresh! Bobby Valentino is a master of the hook and Mams Taylor and Snoop were solid. Gotta put it in rotation

This is a cool song! The beat is great, hook is smooth & catchy ... Taylor held it down decently on this ... Snoop was tight but i've heard him spit much better on the same subject (Kells "Double Up" anyone) ... beat/hook is the real appeal here ... 3.5

You never want your guest to outshine you, but that is sorta what happens here. Then again, most people probably wouldn't check for Mams if BV and Snoop were not featured in the first place.

Runk? sounds a lot like Hip-Pop to me. I think LFO was doing this 10 years ago. Still a good song though, even though Bobby V and Snoop outshine Mams.

This in no way resembles punk to me, it sounds like radio hip-hop. Punk is classified by the harder edged guitar riffs set at a faster pace, and were normally political. This song had none of those things, but I liked it.

Mams and Snoop both did their thing on their respective verses, and Bobby V definitely showed up to create a nice, catchy hook.

I dug the song. I know I will be hearing this over and over this summer! I checked out some of Mams other stuff. Its interesting. Its all very varied stylistically but mostly very good. Definitely interested to see what Mams comes out with next!

I agree theres not much "punk" to this song Juanito - However I did some research on Mams. The punk plays more into his attitude and this also seems to be one of his least rock oriented tracks. A lot of his other stuff his way harder. Regardless - Its a SICK track and I hope it takes off this summer. Bobby lays fire on the hook. Snoop is the epitome of cool and Mams makes a great entry into the scene.

yo, i think this is a very good song. however, the whole repeating the same title and concept does get old and it downgrades the song. (gotta stay fresh like Mario said in his interview).

a female artist is going to come out with a track titled "my boyfriend gotta boyfriend." Way too many songs with this theme and this one doesn't stand out that much.

@Museeq - I was thinkin this might be one of his more mellow tracks, but didn't get the chance to check it out. Thanx for doin the research for me! Haha I was excited when it said punk and rap, but then I was disappointed. I'll definitely check him out now!
