Maja 7th - Dance With the Devil
Artist: Maja 7th
Producer: Maja 7th
Album: The Breakout
Label: Bettye-Lee Music LLC
If you’ve been scouring the internet this week to find out what sex in a jazz club sounds like, congratulations, you’ve come to the right place. Chicago-based newcomer YP (making his DJBooth debut today!) and G.O.O.D. Music affiliated rapper GLC are in the Booth to deliver some sonic lovin on Dance With the Devil. The single is the last leak off Maja 7th’s The Breakout project and is composed of a half-sax, half-synth, entirely unique beat from the aforementioned beatsmith. Both artists bridge their talents effortlessly, while keeping the light shining on YP as he describes the girl that’s the root of all his troubles: “Anything you want to do, hell I’m probably gonna let ya, when it’s over I told god I took a dance with the devil.” The Breakout drops tomorrow, March 10, and if Dance With the Devil is any indication of the rest of the album’s composition, there’s going to be a lot of children born in about nine months.

GLC (chi-town stand up) loving that sax in the background...can you say bad engineering?...well i can...hard to listen to the vocals...which is very important in the hip-hop world...i think that he should stick to producing and not engineering if he did it...the hook aint all that...its adequate and thats it...glc from what i can hear did better than him....bad engineering so i can't rate more than ok, but this could have been a soldid song but its not...

In just two weeks, Maja 7th has made me wonder why prior to his forthcoming FSD project hit the promotional turnstyle I never heard of his work. Live instrumentation can be done all wrong if too many layers are tacked on, but "Dance With The Devil" is a seminar in "How To.."
Props to GLC, who always sounds good, and YP who is on my radar (for now). |

I've got to echo the homey DJ Z and agree that if you're not up on your Maja 7th you need to me - lately every beat he touches turns to gold. This one has a Sade-ish vibe to me.
On the real, I wasn't blown away by YP's lyrical work - solid but nothing hugely memorable - but GLC definitely ups the ante. Quiet storm. |

The production is definitely the highlight here. I knew GLC was gonna rip this as soon as I heard the beat. Maja 7th found the right artists

Both YP and GLC definitely delivers with their verses, but the beat by Maja is the most impressive part of the song.

GLC > YP. I like the sax, but at the same time it seems like too much is going on beat wise.

Very cool move with the SAX on the beat. The sax kinda reminds me of a Boyz N the Hood scene.
