In this year of breakout singles, perhaps no single has been more important to an artist’s career than Maino‘s Hi Hater. Made with no guest verses whatsoever (a rarity with today’s hip-hop hits) the song quickly caught on and has helped his long-awaited debut album (now entitled If Tomorrow Comes…) finally receive a solid release date. However, if there’s one thing that the Brooklyn native wants to make clear, it’s that he has no plans of turning Hollywood anytime soon; after all, what could possibly beat that Hood Love? Despite saying “f**k a record deal,” Maino gets a strong lift from Atlantic labelmate Trey Songz on background vocals, but still manages to be the dominant voice over Chris Styles and Marcus D’Tray‘s mid-tempo, street-oriented production. Hood Love is the second single from If Tomorrow Comes…, available in stores and online September 23.
FIRST!!!!!!
IS IT JUS ME OR IS TREY SONGZ BECOMING MORE OF A HOOK SINGER THEN A ACTUAL ARTIST(JUS SAYING)EITHER WAYHE DOES HIS THING AND ITS ALWAYS FRESH AND MAINO DOES HIS THING TO KEEP IT UP
agree with DJ XLR8... I was just thinking that! as for this... not bad but i donno, i give it a 3... i'm not all for Manio or even for the hook on this...
I think Maino kind of sold out on this one. I mean, Hood Love?? How many songs have had that same exact name or concept? The track is nothing special at all, there is nothing that really stands out. Maino's flow on this isn't too special either. He must be really tying to go mainstream, which I can't hate on. I got Hi Hater really heavy in my rotation right now, but this is a pass for me.
R&B Funeral Music. Anything with that organ just turns my ears for some reason. Songz is doin the Wayne thing these days. He must live in the studio on every rappers hook these days. He usually makes the song he's on outshining the MC's on their own track. This one is no exception. I gotta admit that signature yodel he does is annoying though. Gotta stop that. Sound like someone is choking a chicken.
Suprsingly hot music comin out recently, seems like people are actually making an effort to step up their quality of their music. Make a radio record while putting some content in it. I like it, Trey Songz has been growing on me T-Pain style and Maino raps well over tha beat.
HEY HEY HEY guys.. You all are so quick to slay Trey. I think he makes the track... Not gonna lie I'm a bit biased but I have to represent my own whenever possible. [Virginia!] Maino's lyrics were better than in that Hi Hater mess. Talk about making your ears bleed...
The collaboration makes sense since Trey and Maino are label mates at Atlantic. But with that said... TREY IS EVERYWHERE. He has quickly rose to TOP 3 in demand feature hook singer. Just think, not too long ago the big name in featuring was Nate Dogg. Nice track.
I must admit, if I'm not feeling the beat I'm turned off by a song automatically. This track is okay, Maino can really make a song because he's learned the craft of commercial appeal. He's got a good voice. I didn't like this joint at first but as I'm listening to this it's growing on me. It's got it's Will-Smithness to it.
I'm callin Maino a one hit wonder.. Alot of u are probably sayin "Hi hater"to me right now But i think its true. Maino = One hit wonder with "Hi Hater". And even that wasnt that much of a hit.
that's the type of songs artists come up with after few years having time to work on their albums...Maino is a one-hit-wonder without a hit. real cheap beat, gimme 5 minutes and I find you a better beat on soundclick!
Maino is really annoying, I don't like him! Maybe the beat is generic but I like it, it's catchy! The song itself is mediocre to me, not bad but not good, either. 2,5
I don't know man. Maino is a good rapper. Like I stated before, he was on my radar about 5 years ago when he was on the underground tip and on S.M.A.C.K DVDs, but most of these joints he's been dropping in the mainstream industry don't really catch my attention. Hi-Hater had an addictive hook and I can play it once and again, but this joint isn't too authentic here. DJZ, I do notice that TREY is everywhere, and I don't know if that's good. I mean, it is financially for Trey, but I hope he don't start getting "track pimped" on every track. His presence on a track will lose it's excitement and value like hearing Lil Wayne or T-Pain on a track. But this track is okay. It doesn't seem too sincere...just something for the radio. If that was Maino's aim, I guess he did what he had to do then.
