After leaving his old recording home at Universal --for the greener pastures of Atlantic-- Brooklyn rapper, Maino, quickly learned the benefits of his new label situation. Signed through Atlantic’s top urban artist, T.I., the choice for Maino’s new buzz single is What Ya Gonna Do. No matter the quality, the cut might not guarantee Maino a hit so long as TIP remains on house arrest for several federal gun charges. However, being a Brooklynite, Maino is up to the challenge (even displaying the ability to switch up his style to sound more Southern). While his Dirty South delivery is slightly less skillful than his usual Northeastern style, Maino’s flexibility makes What Ya Gonna Do an ideal building block for the upcoming debut, Death Before Dishonor. After all, as the late Pimp C was quoted as saying, “technically Atlanta is part of the East Coast.”
This is a solid "buzz" cut. People see T.I. + new music and they will listen. Like I have said before, and clearly am saying here again, artists looking for a big break need to do it without the help of industry giants (Eminem, Kanye, 50 Cent, Jay-Z). Otherwise they'll never be able to do it on their own.
You can tell that this beat was made by T.I. because he always knows how to deliver nicely on his own beat. Good job from T.I. lyrically. I just wouldn't want to listen to this track all day over and over which is why I can't put it in rotation. It is kinda cool though. Maino isn't showing his best on this beat. I'm not sure if it's for him or not.
Maino stay da f**k out of T.I.z way okae koz he killed dis one as usual but Maino bro U needa come on alot harder if your gunna match T.I... U can't hav urself shown up on your own track!!!
It's ite. Nothing special. The sad part is, T.I. will always outshine everyone else from Grand Hustle when he throws on a track with them. THey don't think of the other artists, it's always gonna be the bigstar. Even when he was just on the chorus, "That's Right" was all about T.I.
T.I. Killed This. Maino Is A Decent Artist. Reminds Me Of Brisco But A Lower Level. He Can Blow Up With A Couple Of Big Producers And Artists. I Agree With DJ Blaze Too. Not Rotation, Won't Be Listening To It Often. 2.5 Stars
