From the moment he first picked up a mic until the moment before his single Hi Hater was released, rapper Maino was known only to the most avid hip-hop listeners. Since then, however, the Brooklyn native has enjoyed a plethora of guest artist work. For his next single, the rapper is considering However Do You Want It, which finds the emcee once again describing his rise from a life spent in and out of jail to star-studded events with paparazzi galore. Super-producer J.R. Rotem does his thing by sampling R&B group Soul II Soul‘s classic hit, Back to Life, and using a bassline also found in Cassidy‘s I’m A Hustla, 50 Cent‘s I Get Money, and LL Cool J‘s You Better Watch Me. Based on the reviews of those songs inside our Booth, though, Want It might win the single nod. If Tomorrow Comes… is set to arrive on December 30.
Great sample of Back to Life! Really throws me back to the early 90s, JR turns an overused beat into something unique that Maino can infuse his 'catchy' style into.
Not bad, Maino's got some catchy songs, with most of the credit going to the hooks. Im still bummin that Hi Hater didnt get as big as it did, so that doesn't leave me much hope for this one. The flow on here is on point, there really isn't anything wrong with it unless you get picky. In rotation type of joint, Maino got skills.
WOW! I really wanted to sample "Back To Reality" for my album! That's insane that J.R sampled that! HE ALWAYS BRINGING BACK THE OLD JOINTS! This production and song overall is 100% times better than "Hi Hater". This should be an awesome single! I had gave up on Maino after that "Role Model" song, but this gives me interest in him again. MAN! The breakdown is so ill. Not to be cocky, but I swear, I could have smashed this harder. I'm finna freestyle to this and release the track! The production is a banger and Maino is not bad! Nuff said! Who cars WOW:) You must have missed the whole nineties then. I guess you are 3 years younger than me. This song reminds me of the 1992 and 1993. I think I remember hearing it on a Fresh Prince episode too. It just takes me back to an Afrocentric time in the hip hop culture. It's always something I'll remember. Nostalgia is lovely!
MH i thought we were over our stupid little back n forth fightz..."who cares?"...well i really dont care if you do...because my comment iznt for you. real talk.
No man! You can't add a rock sound to one of the greatest songs ever. WTF First off Belly showed us that this song sounds even better accapella. Now you wanna ruin it with a rock sound. I object!!
Wow, there are a lot of opinions on either side of the fence thus far. Great arguments on both sides. I have a rule: If you remake a great song, and its worse than the original, you are done in my book. But, if you only sample a great song, regardless of its place next to the original, you can stand on your own merit. Maino, while not my favorite emcee from Brooklyn currently, does he thing. Major props to Rotem.
i think this guy has gud flow but not tht main stream so i dont think he will be big (if hes been around this long and hasnt made it) mai mate loves this guy but i think ....
J.R always brings the heat behind the beat and maino does his thing on this would have liked him to been more creative on the braging on his bankroll. JUST MORE DISCUSSION HIT ME UP ON myspace.com/djxlr8themc HOW COME ALL RAPPERS WANT TO TALK ABOUT IS THEIR BLESSING DURRING THE TIME OF A RECESSION?
I'm kinda feeling this song. I don't know the background sample but it's really good, the girl has a powerful voice. Maino sounds good with the overall production...the more I listen to this song, the more I like it...I had to listen to it three times! The first time I was perplexed, the second it began growing on me and now I like it!
