Maino - Bring It Back DJ
Artist: Maino
Producer: Kwame
Album: The Day After Tomorrow
Label: Hustle Hard/Atlantic
As Maino’s so fond of saying, the man does hustle hard, and the heavily inked New York emcee is back to prove he’s got more than just Tiger Woods’ sex addiction on his mind with the release of his new buzz single Bring It Back DJ. Although no actual DJ appears on the cut (really?), the track does pay sonic homage to hip-hop’s turntable backed roots, with one of the Booth’s favorite boardsmiths Kwame crafting a bouncing, synth heavy beat, the perfect backdrop for Maino’s straight ahead, high-caliber lines: “I ain’t no actor / black bandana / can’t get rid of me / baby I’m cancer.” So how about it Booth? Is Maino “ill” like cancer in the good sense or the bad sense on this cut? Bring It Back DJ will appear on Maino’s upcoming album The Day After Tomorrow, which is due to drop later this year and, I assume, bears no relation to the enjoyably terrible disaster movie of the same name.

The song is about us! Yes! Just kidding, well kinda. Kwame smashed the production and Maino does his usual vocal routine. Not 100% satisfying, but enough to rotate!

DJ Khaled: "You want me to bring it back? Ok!! WE DA BEST!!"
Please, Maino, keep him away. This track is so-so...forgettable after it ends with nothing-special lyrics. This won't hurt Maino, though. |

Day After Tomorrow is one of the greatest movies ever!!! Maybe so will this album...
Maino and T-Pain need to get together again. Its alright, but hopefully not the lead single, he needs something somewhat like an All The Above (that would be nearly impossible to top though) 2.5 |

@Djkidd: "none of his songs are special" clearly you haven't heard All The Above http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEYxOPtQqWw, if that aint special, then nothing is!!! That is the perfect song for me (inspirational with good hook, like Live Your Life), but I guess its your opinion and not for you

i think maino isnt a bad rapper, its just that he uses simple rhyme schemes on every rap, it kinda bugs me out

This song is hot as hell! Best song I've heard from Maino, I like this alot better than "Hi Hater". The production is crazy!

Nice production..agree with the "All The Above" talk, he needs a feature like Pain if he wants any chance at duplicating his past success, he's not strong enough to carry it by himself yet

The more I think about it the more befuddled by the lack of a DJ here. Really? You did a song called Bring It Back DJ and you didn't include at least some turntable scratches? Really?
Sorry, I tried to, but I just can't feel this. |

This song really bangs, I think Maino may find more mainstream success with this cut.

Song does not flow at all. I hate the beat, seems like some prepubescent kid's first beat. It was also very sloppy. I thought this guy was getting better. One step forward, two steps back.

maino never claimed to be the "best rapper alive" so i don't get why people come down on him so much at times.
i think he is good at what he does. making radio-friendly records that people can dance to. that's his lane now. i woulda given this track a 4, but with kwame on the beat, i had to bump it up another star. |

in rotation, this isnt anything special. maybe lloyd would have been the better choice for the hook instead of doing it himself

I can hear this in rotation because that hooks easy to say. Maino doesnt surprise me tho. All of his songs except all of the above are sub par

Inoffensive while it lasts, the song has very little to no replay value for me. Okay at very best.

Forget what them other cats are talking about this is a hit record. Once this joint hit radio and television all the hating will cease. Shout out to Maino on this. He needs to take Kwame out to lunch because this is another one in my book.
