Whether you think Macy Gray sounds more like Billie Holiday or like nails on a chalkboard, you have to concede one point: the woman does her own thing on the mic. After winning a Grammy for her single I Try in 2001 and receiving rave reviews for the majority of her subsequent work, she is once again trying to find her way back to the top of the R&B charts with Only In the Dark, her new white-label track, a single-only EP. Featuring hard-hitting production by Jared Lee (of Almost September) and a verse about nothing in particular by The Game, Only In the Dark actually has very little to do with Macy Gray. Her raspy voice is more of a sideshow than the main attraction, as it makes only a brief appearance in eight racy bars and the hook. Is this the return Macy Gray fans have been waiting for, or is it just another filler track from the talented artist?
This is some real weird/dark production from Jared Lee. The Game served this track nicely. His flow is always on point and this was no exception. Macy Gray on the other hand is just...another story. She's eclectic, but it's like her picture is cute "Only in the dark" and her vocals on this song are doing "only do a deaf person". Real talk. 3 stars due to the interesting production, solid engineering mix, scratch and Game raps.

i really wondered if i would like this song. Honestly, i wish Game's part would have been the last verse, instead of the first.. her part is... odd.... but.. THATS MACY GRAY RIGHT??
Well to me Macy's voice is one of the worse...I really can't listen to her, my ears get injured everytime I hear a song by her! Maybe I am exaggerated, but to me her voice lacks grace. Considering this, the chorus is horrible because of her of course! The Game's parts are excellent, I really like him and yes he is way better than 50 Cent (whom I've never liked. 2 stars for The Game...oh and the beat is super!

Macy Gray doesn’t have anything to prove, so she can do whatever she wants with her singing (pretty much like our crazy Lil Wayne). Just be open minded to appreciate it. Game’s features have been crazy lately! He rips anything he steps on! That 50 cent line is just to make a point, and he makes it VERY WELL, don’t get offended, cuz he didn’t offend not even 50 (except turning a line of his better). I like the dark production like y’all callin it. Both artists really came up with solid lyrics.
