Macklemore x Ryan Lewis - Starting Over
Artist: Macklemore x Ryan Lewis
Producer: Ryan Lewis
Album: The Heist
Label: Unsigned
Otherside, the very first Booth feature from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, saw the former delivering a brutally honest chronicle of his struggle with addiction, and reflecting on the extent to which pop artists bear responsibility for glamorizing chemical dependency. Needless to say, the record was an inspiration to many hip-hop fans struggling with substance abuse. On the latest off the duo’s newly-released debut set, Mack makes an even more difficult admission to the fans for whom he’s a role model: like so many others in his position, he relapsed in a moment of weakness. In an ironic reversal, however, it’s the fans who look up to him that gave him the courage to go on. Lewis provides a tunefully understated instrumental to back his partner’s personal narrative, and singer Ben Bridwell ties the record together with some plaintive hook vocals. For more, check out Ryan Lewis and Macklemore’s The Heist LP, released today, and available in the Booth for preview/digital purchase.

It is a song like "Starting Over" that has allows Macklemore to accumulate fans like baseball cards. His openness, his vulnerability, and his candid words allow fans to feel like friends and not just a buyer of music. Incredible stuff.

This was a pretty chill track. Good lyrics by the team and good sounds with the production by Ryan Lewis.

One of standouts off the album.
DJ Blaze. I swear all you ever like is mainstream music. I've never seen a 4 star rating by you unless its a 'banger'. Knob. |

Every song on this album is 5-star quality in my eyes. A true pioneer of modern day music... Not just hip-hop.

I have heard about this guy so I went and check out his music. I listened to a lot of songs and in my opinion, he isn't good. His stuff sounds like dry spoken word sometimes like he doesn't have any rhythm. Guess he is appeals to a different demographic.

He knows he is a role model and he admitted slipping up but he also shows it's never to late to change.

Ill track. Macklemore is a dope rapper with his storytelling and lyricalness. Loving the chorus vocals are smooth. The beat is so smooth and mellow.

It's hard to say whether he is telling the world about this cause he is being real and sees it as a legit issue that needs to be attended to within society OR whether he is just doing it coz he knows he will get mad attention using it for marketing and rack up fans???? Hmmm?? Just have to wait and see what this kid does next.
