Lyn Charles - NY Girl
Artist: Lyn Charles
Producer: Young Ferno
Album: Golden Louis EP
Label: Unsigned
On DJBooth newcomer Lyn Charles’ latest feature, it’s a simple case of Philly emcee meets NY Girl as the artist touches on a past relationship with a woman from The Empire City. The bleak tone of the record is recognized just seconds after pressing the play button as the Philadelphia spitter dissects his dismal relationship, coming to the conclusion that, “I’m just a drifter drifting, life lived/ I loved you from the start, but I can’t give you my heart.” Producer Young Ferno‘s jazz-heavy production proves to be a fitting audio backdrop for both the melancholy record and Charles’ exemplary lyricism. You can find NY Girl on Charles’ Golden Louis EP, which is available for download on iTunes.

Has a certain aura that makes you feel like you've been alongside Lyn as far back as his relationship has been on and off. Makes you feel like more of a friend than a listener. Big fan of the production, which creates a wonderful canvas for Lyn's vulnerable rhymes.

Lyn Charles has a NYC-veteran style flow. Really tight lyrics and delivery on this one. I like the punchy bass in the beat by Young Ferno. This was good work... all around BANGER!

I usually don't go for the old school feel tunes, but this has a great mixture of sounds, and it changes up constantly
