After reading the title of Lyfe Jennings’ latest single, Statistics, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect – but I was definitely not expecting to hear the Jesus Swings/Asylum/WMG singer deliver a thought-provoking commentary on modern romance, backing his assertions up with actual statistical data. Lyfe, I’m sorry I underestimated you. While some of the facts and figures the R&B heavyweight cites over producer T-Minus’ tuneful blend of piano and electric guitar are dubious (“Fifteen percent of men got a complex… there’s a 50/50 chance that you’ll marry a coward.”), it’s hard to argue with the record’s laid-back catchiness, Jennings’ vocal abilities, or the track’s underlying message – ladies, are you taking notes? Fans will be able to find more infectious tunes and rock-solid lyrical insights on Lyfe Jennings’ latest full-length, I Still Believe, tentatively scheduled to hit record stores and online retailers on June 29.

After "Busy" didn't work out for Lyfe I was anxious to hear what he'd come with next. To my surprise (and apparently Richard's as well) "Statistics" turned out to be a giant step up, both in content and delivery. Though I doubt anyone listens to R&B hoping to gain knowledge and insight as though they were a student, I cannot say a professor lecture has ever before been this catchy.
If they do a video I will put money on a classroom setting for the opening verse. Any takers?

This is a major upgrade from "Busy". Jennings voice could be best described as awesome. Random connection: I immediately thought of Novel's Cold Hard Facts when I listened to this.

This wasn't what I'd expected from an R&B song, but that doesn't mean I thought it was bad. I liked the fact that he used actual statistics, made it interesting to listen to.

I dig two-thirds of Lyfe Jennings song, and this is one of them. The topic threatens to slip into gimmick, but Lyfe keeps it fresh enough to hold throughout the track. I'm not officially excited about hearing the new album.
Shout out to D-Mac for using the phrase "not my bag."

I have loved statistics ever since I was 5 years old...and I have always been a fan of Lyfe Jennings (copped all his albums)...So simply put, this is a CLASSIC-enough to make you think AND catch on-what he does best!
Dear Warner: PUT THIS GUY'S ALBUM OUT ALREADY! The only reason he didn't go #1 last time was because The Roots dropped the same week-he still managed to outsell Estelle and Lil' Mama (who dropped that same week). You will get a good return-and then some. |

I am not a big R&B dude but I gots to say this song is a fresh breath of air. It has the passion a lot of new age R&B songs are lacking IMO.

after "busy" lyfe has had a bit of a lull but he certainly comes back strong with 'statistics'. soulful, meaningful R&B music that gets to you, love it!

Just like his last couple features, Lyfe Jennings is coming up with unique ideas and engrossing songwriting but somehow they all kinda falls short on repeat factor. I think the chorus could have been memorable a little more to give the song the respect it deserves. Still, Rotation fa sho!

Very nice effort for Lyfe. This is actually the first joint I've heard off of his new album. He is one of my Top ten male R&b artist out right now. So I probably pick up his album anyway.

don't really see how a music video could be made out of this, but start to finish this track is fire. vocals, check; sick track, check; classic eye-opening lesson included, check. this one is for the ladies! i expect this to be heard where i stay pretty soon

I have to speak on the song content. We can rely on Lyfe for that. Remember "must be nice". If he had any songs between now and then they very likely had a message in them, for the ladies, (and the less than lady like).
Not my choice of music so I probably won't hear it again, Since I don't anticipate scanning radio stations with this in heavy rotation. |
