With the sheer amount of time that Lupe Fiasco‘s junior album was in the works, not to mention the confused multiplicity of forces ultimately brought to bear on its tracklist, it should come as no surprise that some quality cuts fell by the wayside. Today, we present one such specimen: What U Want, a Lasers outtake included in remixed form on the latest entry in Fools Gold‘s Foolcast mix series. Neptunes beatsmith Chad Hugo handles production duties, trading the unfinished original’s relatively sedate groove for a more upbeat, club-ready blend of synth stabs and four-on-the-floor percussion. For his part, Lupe lets the beat breathe, dropping minimal yet tuneful sung-rapped bars dedicated to a shawty whose natural habitat is the urban nightlife. Tying it all together is Star Trak stalwart Kenna, who lends his inimitably chill vocal stylings to the record’s hook. So, readers, is this glossy revamp Fools Gold, or is it the real deal? Knowing some of the stuff that was on Lasers, it's understandable to see why this song was an outtake. That being said though it's not a bad track. That just goes to show how good alot of the songs on Lasers are. Would like to hear the unremixed version of this...

@Priceless, you can find an unremixed version on refinedhype, a while ago though
this doesnt work for me, the original wasnt bad but this just doesnt work |

I think they had good intentions by picking up the pace with this song, but it just didn't work this time. You win some, and you lose some, but normally Lupe, and the Neptunes are winning so I'll let this one slide. Still love Lupe though, and Neptunes (Chad's) production. You can always count on Chad to come with a solid product. The original is better though.

I cant hate on anything Lupe does because he is above average. What is bad for Lupe is good for average artists. This song is clearly an experiment and not meant to be a mainstream track. With that in mind its just ok...meh even.

Very interesting selection to remix this song techno style. While the beat is pretty catchy the lyrics aren't and that holds the song at a stand still.

I have to be honest; 'What U Want' isn't really one of my favorite Lupe tracks, neither in its original nor in this new, remixed form. With that being said, I still like the original version better.
