Lupe Fiasco - The Show Goes On
Artist: Lupe Fiasco
Producer: Kane Beatz
Album: Lasers
Label: First&Fifteenth/Atlantic
Well, I guess I’m Beamin’ just never happened, huh? With all the internal bickering between Lupe Fiasco and Atlantic, I’m not surprised that this new record, The Show Goes On, is now being pushed as the first single off of his highly anticipated Lasers album. Just as well - this new song is the epitome of radio-friendly fare that should definitely get Lupe burn in Urban and Top 40 markets. The horns throughout this Kane Beatz joint gives a triumphant feel to match Lupe’s inspirational sermon to today’s ghetto youths, who need a ‘lil kick in the right direction. While his words are enlightening and cleverly spit (as usual), they’re not as lyrical as we’ve come to expect from the son of Chi-town. Actually, it may work better that way; in the words of MLK, say it plain. Besides, Lupe has proved time and time again that he can put together some impossibly complex rhymes, so look at this change of direction as an attempt to reach the very audience who needs to hear it the most. Lasers finally has a March 8, 2011, release date, we’ll see if it sticks.

I don't care that we've all had to wait so long for this time to come - Lupe (finally) has a bonafied hit record on his hands, which should guarantee that "Lasers" drops Q1 next year.
Cheers, Lu. |

This is exactly what Atlantic wanted Lu. Sometimes you gotta play the game; but still stay true. You've done it before (Superstar), and I'm glad you were able to do it again this time around. I hope radio shows this love and Lu can rise back to the top like he deserves to be.

I don't rate too much, I mostly just listen. Sounds great, has potential but.....look up "Float on" by Modest Mouse. Pretty recent, popular, alternative song. I like Lupe over original work. Just sayin...

I've had this on repeat all day... This is one of those tracks that you know will be all over the place for a long time to come, and I can't say I have any objection! Lupe, you killed it with this one.

The "Float On" sample seems like a cheap shot at radio success a la the new Black Eyed Peas sample & every Flo Rida song ever conceived. Lu kills the verses but I would prefer some originality on the hook.

I actually like the original song when it comes on Guitar Hero. I like the production on here. I'm ready to listen to a new Lupe album now and this sounds like a good track from the album. It sounds a bit 'commercial' at times, but still a good radio joint that is single worthy. Good lyrics by Lupe on here. Still not as hot as Kick/Push or Paris/Tokyo yet...

Fcukin’ A — with each play this is on its way to becoming my favorite Lupe Fiasco joint!
Though it is a song that came from a lot of mental agitation and angst when you’re not in control of your music destiny, at heart, “The Show Goes On” is an uplifting song of forgiveness and perseverance, and WILL serve as the capstone to the release of which we are all anticipating. With the kind of flow that forever commands attention, Lupe effortlessly fits words together that are cohesive, have the right number of word play, substance, and don’t sound too cheesy. Kane Beatz & Mad Violinist; these two start, stop, add and subtract an understanding that, I guess, comes along with stratospheric level of technical skills in constructing music. The drums are tough with enough grit to knock speakers in both cars and cribs. There's a bounce to the track that belies its intricate instrumentation. The sampled guitar loop is skillfully used as an immediate hook, one that abruptly-- yet seamlessly-- blends into increasingly opulent horns, and when that combination hits the chorus, it gets, undeniably contagious. Further, the way guitar is cut and violin is subtly introduced into mix on verses; all add texture to a tune that does capture Lupe at his most confidently approachable. "The Show Goes On" boasts plenty of layers, nooks, and crannies to explore and analyze, compelling PLENTY of repeat listens. Now all that's left is exposure, and if given the proper air play this energetic anthem will easily create the dent in the charts it deserves. |

This song is simply fantastic, the only bad thing about it is that I have to wait until March for the album to come out.

The production is flawless; the fluttering electric guitar is classic-worthy material.
Lupe destroyed the second verse with the flow! I really hope this blows up at radio. This is dope radio hip-hop. |

It'd be a good idea for us all to support the hell out of this, maybe then radio will start playing more Lupe instead of "No Hands" 119 times a day. Rock on Lupe, rock on.
And I'm not really sure what people mean when they say they prefer the "original". Yes, they use aspects of Modest Mouse's "Float On", but those aspects are so thoroughly transformed those original aspects they're more like two separate songs with something in common. |

Damn good job by Lupe here. Doesn't stray away from his style, but caters to this beat by simplifying his rhymes a bit to appeal to a larger audience. This can be an enormous hit.

Yes, we have a hit on our hands. Not only now can Lupe get some mainstream love he's deserved since the beginning of his career(yeah, he got some shine with Superstar but as a whole ) but Lasers can finally be released now.
