Now that the, well, fiasco that was the release of Lupe‘s third full-length has largely died down, it’s possible to appreciate Lasers for what it is: a quality, if uncharacteristically pop-oriented addition to the Chitown mainstay’s discography. Or maybe I’m Out of My Head; you’ll have to tell me. In any case, your opinion on Fiasco’s veer to the mainstream will color your perception of his latest effort, a possible single hailed in the Booth and beyond and emblematic of the LP’s radio focus. Here, Miykal Snoddy establishes a bubbly mood with simmering synths and disco-string flourishes as the artist spits bars dedicated to a girl who has him head-over-heels… or does he? As usual, Lupe leaves room for interpretation, drawing intriguing parallels between romantic attraction and his songwriting process: “Everything hooks, everything works / you’re a real good chorus I’m a real good verse.” Trey Songz provides said chorus, tying the record together with some of his trademark smoothness. So, is this potential selection as fresh and exciting as a new love, or as stale and frustrating as a failing marriage? Debate away – and, of course, keep it locked to the Booth for all your Lupe Fiasco needs.

This is one of my least favorite songs on the "Lasers" album. But it's still good. It is perfectly suited for radio because of the upbeat mood and the fact that Trey Songz is on it. It kinda represents what I believe is a newer style that the radio has been shifting towards recently. It seems to me like the mainstream is starting to change a bit, but maybe that's just me. Decent song regardless.

This is one of my favourite songs on the album. It didnt start of that way but after a couple listens I couldnt get it out of my head. The retro disco production is really good and Trey made the song even more catchy with his hook. And of course Lupe brings his flow and lyricism.
I cant hate on the mainstream focus of this song. Lupe has bills to pay. |

I know Lupe probably dislikes this record, but its super catchy. Not my favorite from the new album - which actually had plenty of single choices - but a good idea considering Trey's track record at radio.

It's not a bad track, but for considering Lupe is one of the most talented artists in the game, this is disappointing. What really saves this song is Trey's catchy hook. Still, I expect more from Lupe.

I think its a good track but it's definitely not my favorite off of this album. If you haven't heard the other songs off of his album then don't judge it based on this song. So like i said its good but not the best

A great choice for next single. "Out of my head" is super catchy and even though he did serious dumbing down job on it, it's a Lupe track so how could it be bad?

Ok clearly Lupe or whoever chose this is looking for radio play but this just isn't the best display of Lupe's lyrical talent. Superstar WORKED and proved Lupe isn't out of place among the mainstream. I'm not feeling this one though. Trey was ok.

When I first heard it, I don't think I even let the song get past one minute before I wrote it off. But, I have to admit after giving it a real chance, I like it. It is commercial, especially adding Trey on the track, but not a complete sell out.

This is one of those "right down the middle" tracks where Lupe fans will think it's okay and mainstream radio peeps will love it. A good club joint that's gonna make Lupe a few ends. I put this on one of my mainstream mix CDs 'cause it's a perfect for that type of mix. It didn't take anything away from Lupe for me. He's still a good MC. I like the song despite its poppish appeal.

Good song. Lupe Fiasco has genius lyrics, drawing different parellels to song writing and romance. Trey Songz is a sleazy mother @*#$! and just wants his cock in a vagina. |

its just not for Lupe to rap over beats like this one. in this case quality of the record doesn't matter as much as the legacy.
Lasers has great tracks in it, but this is just not one of them. I wouldn't hate it as much if it would be a Trey Songz single though. |

Definitely one of my least favourite songs on Lasers. Now that a few months have passed, Lasers definitely disappointed me as a Lupe album. It doesn't at all have the same replay value as The Cool or the classic F&L. Anyway this record I find quite boring and bland. It's not bad and I can understand why this is a single, but Lupe has so much more to offer!

Man, Lupe's album was SUCH a letdown for me. Too many skippable tracks as I count 6 I would re-listen to, plus a few tracks that were left off for whatever reason.
This was one I was really into, it's extremely catchy (which is not a plus) but it's a good collaboration for Lupe. Hopefully it gets him where he hoped, but it's just not a good look for me. |

obviously some people are being close minded and not giving Lupe his credit as being a multi talented artist. Stop putting them in a box and try to understand the artist and what He is trying to covey to his listeners.
this track has lot more understanding if you check the video and see the visual aspect of it. I all for a artist being versitile and grabbing a new audience. the track is hot, definitely getting radio play and it's a club joint. |
