When Lupe Fiasco surprised the nation last Friday by dropping the lead single off what will apparently be the follow-up to his long-awaited third and final studio album (and the sequel to his acclaimed debut set), he must have known that the ensuing buzz would make napping an impossibility. Nonetheless, on the newly-released joint, the man who brought us Kick, Push informs us that we’re welcome to Go to Sleep. Backed by the slow-burning, piano-led boardwork of 1500 or Nothin’, Lupe stretches, yawns and launches into verses that, though relatively subdued, leave no doubt that he’s got his head in the game: “Gettin’ up and goin;’ hard, never needed Enzyte / Come across as very calm, mental state is Zen-like.” While neither the long-delayed LASERS nor Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album, have received a solid release date, there’s no need to lie awake at night waiting for updates; instead, fans of the Windy City heavyweight can rest easy in the knowledge that we in the Booth will keep you supplied with all the latest news and tunes.

 Honestly, I don't care what Lupe titles his next album. I just want an album. Lupe is one of the very very very few artists in the industry who has the ability to captivate (see Eminem, Jay-Z). If you throw on a full body of work from Lupe and just vibe out under headphones it can be an amazing experience depending on your taste in music and your mood at the time. I want to experience that again. I have a feeling that "Go to Sleep" is a step toward that happening. Thankfully.

While his last two singles off of "Lasers" were good, they were no where near anything off the first two albums. This changes that though. This is the best song I have heard from him since 2007. I absolutely love the dark production and interesting lyrics.

This is among Lupe's best work released somewhat recently, it's definitely more toward the level of his first two albums. The production is pretty good and I like the vibe of the song. Lupe's lyrics are on point and are definitely some of his best recent ones. I gotta agree with Z here: at this point, I don't give a crap what the album is named or anything, I just need new music from Lupe...hopefully this is a sign of more to come.

This is better than his last two singles, but it still doesn't feel much like a single or anything to get excited about. Lupe's music just doesn't hit me like it used to, maybe i'm just tired of the same old cadence. Lyrics are good as usual though and the beat is really dope. 3.5 stars

Lupe Fiasco is the man! As much as I've loved his mixtape and his songs he has released I want his CDs to actually drop. They need to stop Fn around with the best rapper in the game right now. Lupe is real rap. So lyrical its insane. FnF UP!

Awesome track, this is the Lupe we have been waiting damn near 3 years for! Wasn't really feeling I'm Beaming and that Love Story tape and after reading what Prolyfic was saying about Lupe's situation, I had sort of accepted we wouldnt be hearing from Lupe for a while....
Hopefully this means Lupe is back in business! Truthfully he should have just stuck to the script and dropped Lup.End; three classics back to back! This track is dope, it just makes me want more! Whatever the album's called, ill be coppin that first day! FNF U-P! |

What is going on at Camp Lupe? "Lasers" is on hold, and now there's a Food & Liquor 2 on the way? Um....ok.
Still, in terms of this track specifically, I've been more excited by Lupe tracks, but this is still one in a million, and I'll absolutely take it. I have no idea what to expect next, but I'm anxiously awaiting what comes.

Great production from 1500 or Nothin', reminiscent of some of songs on 808's & Heartbreaks with some of the songs used. I like the feel of it. It moves at a good pacel. Lupe's verses are always on point. The hook has some interesting production in it. I like the drum roll in there.

Also with lupe almost all of his songs have double meaning, i think what he means by saying go to sleep is be blind, that's why he says he's an insomniac since he's not bein ignorant and blind.
